Well equipped,warm. Great location.
Shower cold with very little pressure so had to have baths. Mattress in single room thin with springs you could feel.

Property is very old and decorated and furnished accordingly - it looks lovely inside. It was also very clean throughout and well equipped, and when the heating is on its very cosy. Steep narrow staircases in keeping with the age and type of property. The TV has no terrestrial channels, just the Samsung TV channels. It does have Netflix etc which was handy. Bookcase with some games was a nice touch. We didn't play any of them except for using the deck of cards so no idea if they were complete. Tea. coffee and sugar provided with some milk sachets. Kitchen was lovely, very cosy and a nice place to eat. Our pooch was very comfortable in his bed in the kitchen next to the radiator. Communication was excellent, we had no issue getting in. Location is amazing - right next to the high street. No parking at the property - Staithes has very little parking - but there are free short-term spaces within steps of the property where you can unload and load. We had no trouble getting a space to load and unload, people generally just stay to load/ unload and then move so spaces came free quickly. There are 2 car parks at the top of the hill out of the village, one is private and one is the council. The council one is cheaper at just over £7 a day and from 1st November to 31st March its free. We just parked and left the car the whole time we were there. Lovely walks along the Cleveland way in both directions - the cliff tops are very breezy and blow the cobwebs away! Some steep climbs but that's Staithes!
The property is in need of a refurb. The bathroom in particular needs attention - the shower is totally unusable and not working properly, no pressure and the water alternates between boiling hot/ freezing cold. We just had baths instead but the plug seal is missing (someone has previously mentioned this and it doesn't seem to have been acted on) and so water does very gradually drain out while you're bathing. Some of the plugs make crackling noises when things are plugged in. In places it looks a bit tired - the tiles around the bath, the floor at one end of the living room which has been riddled with woodworm at some point and looks a bit precarious. Sofas aren't the most comfortable, quite narrow and could do with a pouffe to put your feet up. We found the bed a bit soft but that's a personal preference. It was good for a short stay of a few days but due to the issues with the bathroom, and the sofas and bed not being very comfortable we wouldn't stay for longer. The outside area is a bit tired with a few pots on it - a table and chairs would have been nice to be able to sit out.

Shower is a bit weak and we couldn’t find a bottle opener. Second visit though, lovely house overall!

wonderful location, spacious and light cottage given the topography of the village.
Cottage was dirty and tired. Some basics missing including adequate tea towels and hand soap in kitchen. The shower pressure was so low it was unusable.
We weren't surprised to notice that the cottage is on the market. It feels like it hadn't been looked after.

Really great stay at Hampdon Cottage in Staithes, nice location and well equipped, all clean and good communication throughout. Thanks for accommodating us!
The link to where to park was slightly confusing on arrival as drop pin is in a different location to the actual cottage address.

The location was lovely and the cottage is very warm. The rooms are all of a good size and the decor is lovely too.
The microwave was not working when we arrived and tried to cook tea for the children. It was unplugged and when we plugged it in there was smoke and a grinding noise which was a bit alarming! This meant we had to heat everything on the hob and for a family of 4, there were not enough pans in the kitchen to make up for the broken microwave. We reported it, as we felt it might be dangerous, and the host and stay team were very responsive and a chap came out to us to ha e a look at it on day two. He told us something would get sorted, but we were later told in a text that the microwave would not be replaced as they didn't have another. This was despite us suggesting nearby Argos sells them for less than £50. So we left the microwave as we found it for the next family - unplugged.
The shower is also on its way out. The showerhead leakes water out of the sides and the on off button is missing entirely so you have to hold in a tiny switch under the missing on/off switch for more than 30 seconds or the water stops all together. The water pressure is also very poor so the water is luke warm at best. The window frames in the bedrooms are black with mildew and we found woodlice in the bathroom and bedrooms. (One in my son's bed!) There was no hairdryer as advertised just the nozzle was left in the wardrobe drawer and there was no space to hang anything because spare bedding was stacked high inside the wardrobe.
We have stayed in many cottages in Staithes and this is the only one we have had issues with. We noted later that that the cottage is currently up for sale, so the owners are possibly reluctant to spend any money on repairing or updating.

It was an adventurous cottage across 4 floors. Granddaughter loved it. Facilities were good and clean, and kitchen was well stocked. Beds were clean and comfy. It was 5 minutes from the harbour and there were some lovely pubs and tea rooms.
There was an over bath shower which was OK, but no bath mat or hand rails, so a little difficult to get in and out of without slipping.
