Vibrant Host -Bonfim

Although in a less "salubrious" area of Porto, we loved the location: there is a bus stop nigh on outside the front door, and the metro station Campo 24 Agosto is a 5-minute walk away. It takes 20 minutes to walk to Louis I bridge, with lots to see on the way. There are also plenty of places to eat in the vicinity and there's a supermarket basically opposite the metro. We tried the bifanas at the bottom of the road just opposite the metro - a place for locals, without a doubt, but friendly staff, delicious bifanas, and a great price (2 bifanas and 2 beers cost around 6 Euros). The hosts were very attentive and were on-call if anything was needed. The apartment itself is spacious, with a comfy sofa and bed. The gifts from the hosts were very much appreciated. There is some construction work nearby, but the double glazing blocked that out (although my husband did complain about the rooster(s) below - me? I heard nothing!). Air conditioning worked well, but......

......our only complaint is the lack of blackout curtains in the living room. This meant that it wasn't possible to keep the bedroom door open to allow a flow of air without light being let in from the living room. The alternative was to close the bedroom door and keep on the air conditioning all night, which we don't like to do as it's not good for the environment or our general well-being. This led to disturbed sleep as we were waking up to turn on the air con and then waking up freezing to turn it off again. Also, and it was great to have toiletries, but why only shampoo and no shower gel in the shower?? If there were blackout curtains in the living room, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

It is a very comfortable apartment. Has all the necessary amenities. The hosts are very kind and reachable.

There is a construction site near the apartment and also some rooster and hens, but it is not the hosts’ fault. There is no elevator. The knives in the kitchen were obtuse.

Offered useful laundry facilities which is always helpful on a long trip, quite spacious for the location.

The neighbourhood wasn’t that great,and we had a very vocal cockerel literally right next door to our room. Obviously this wasn’t the property’s responsibility but it did disturb sleep significantly and when we raised the issue we were told to look at it as romantic as you don’t often get to experience this in cities these days. Ummm… Also a bit of a drain smell in the building especially on the lower floor.
