Stufstock Hostel

Sulina was the highlight of our trip and this is probably the most authentic place to stay at when visiting Sulina. The hostel is an old greek house run by an artist, who is still working on it to become better every year. You can find his own beautiful artwork all over the hostel, and the place also has a small outer area with a small flower garden and a friendly dog. The host is very knowledgeable about Sulina and it's history, how this house is one of few that survived the second world war, and what happened to the delta when the communiats took power. He can help with any plans to visit the Danube Delta and such (you can also ask about the pirate grave at the cemetary!) If you would like some real delta fish, he can also cook it for you. The location is 5 minutes of walking from the quay where the big ferry stops, and you can easily walk around the entire town, no need to take a taxi. Or go to the beach past the cemetary in about 15 minutes or so. The rooms are nothing out of the ordinary, but you will have to go outside to go to the bathroom building. All in all our visit felt much more genuine and authentic than other hostels have felt in other towns and the host was very nice and easy to talk to. Would very much like to return some day. We also got to buy one of his paintings as a souvenir, which we will hang on the wall to remind us of Sulina.

Staying in a thoughtfully-decorated traditional house, with an owner who knows the history of the place.

Just the distance to the bathroom (although not far, it isn't ideal if you have to visit a few times during the night).
