Outside a smell of gas that is being dealt with this coming week.

Peaceful, Nice view over the town and river.

Quite tricky to walk down to the cabin. I didn't study the listing ref steps, but was drawn by it being all on one level. I'm not very mobile and the route down was a bit like Badminton Horse Trials.

A disappointing experience although we managed to make the most of it. This was possibly due to a misleading overview description either by the owner or Sykes Cottages. eg The access way is listed as “may be difficult for some people with mobility issues”. This is a gross understatement. It is a 50+ yard walk down a steep slope with gravel paths and uneven oddly spaced steeping stones. Actually a shocking entrance for a cottage. We were only partially advised of this after paying the non refundable deposit. Had we known, this would have stopped us booking. The small garden at the end of the trail is secluded and very private with a lovely view over the town and distant Dartmoor and is secure for small dogs. However it was unkempt and untidy, looking very much uncared for, with a lot of rubbish around the very dirty BBQ. Inside was very tiny, with practically no room around the double bed, but was clean and tidy. We weren’t looking for luxury and are happy with rustic, but Dart Hideout is somewhat inadequate. Positives Seclusion/privacy View Nice small touches on arrival, incl bottle of wine , biscuits, milk. All much appreciated.

Negatives Inadequate, actually dangerous, table that would fall over at the slightest touch, esp with dishes etc on it. Inadequate space to use the electrical kitchen devices nor places to plug them in. Inadequate cutlery, plates and basic utensils. In fact very little of any of these. Bed comfort was poor with quite useless pillows Some dangerous sharp edges around the room, nails knocked in as hooks and sharp metal edges protruding from the coffee table. Outside decking is rotting and insecure in places.
