Historic Stone Cottage with a private plunge pool

Nice location in a pretty village approx 20 minutes from Lucca by car. We stayed in a private accessed Casa with two floors which had a private kitchen whilst ant the same time we were able to enjoy the shared facilities such as the tennis courts and swimming pool with the rest of the villa. Vanessa was a lovely host, very friendly and had very helpful staff upon arrival to assist us with our bags and show us to our room. Vanessa also gave us recommendations and helped us secure a taxi for our return to Lucca as there were no buses on Sunday to town. The only negative was the house we stayed in (La Casina) was quite dusty and the rooms were musky upon arrival with cobwebs visible so even though it is an old house we would have just appreciated it to be slightly more cleaned and fresh for our arrival. The kitchen was also well equipped and Vanessa very kindly provided us with some essential cooking ingredients and larger frying pan upon request. Overall I would say it was a beautiful Villa and a relaxing stay.

Pros: Vanessa is a welcoming and kind host Great location, use of the grounds and swimming pool Easy parking Large space/rooms/ private garden Cons: - Simply put, the property was not clean - Strong musty smell in the bedroom - Dishes, chopping boards and cutlery grimy from previous renters, we ended up avoiding cooking and just having coffee and breakfast at the property. - Dust on all shelves - Cot helpfully provided, but with a stained and old mattress - Advertised as having 'private plunge pool' in the title, but it had clearly been out of service for some time. Yes, the main pool is kindly available but we had been looking forward to having our own small space with our baby. Overall it felt to us like the property needs some attention, a very deep clean and replacement of things like old rugs, and just generally a bit of TLC. Did we report anything when we were there? No, simply because there would have been nothing the host could have done during our stay once we were in there.
