About this house rental

Summary:

Wakainga is a relaxed, light-filled family home with wide sea views, generous outdoor living, and an easy walk to Oneroa Beach and the village. With four sleeping spaces, three bathrooms, and room to spread out across multiple levels, it’s a comfortable base for families or groups wanting space, light, and a central island location.

The Space:

Designed for easy coastal living, Wakainga is arranged across two levels and opens to three generous decks, giving guests plenty of space to dine outdoors, relax in the sun, or enjoy the sea breeze throughout the day.

The main living level is bright and open, bringing together the lounge, dining area, and fully equipped kitchen in one connected space. Full-width bi-fold doors open onto the upper deck, creating a strong indoor–outdoor flow that works well for shared meals, relaxed afternoons, and summer evenings.

Two bedrooms sit on this level, including the main bedroom with ensuite, while the lower level forms a quieter second zone. Downstairs includes a further bedroom, a bunkroom, and a full bathroom, making it a practical layout for families, older children, or friends travelling together who want a bit of separation within the home.

The overall feel is calm and unfussy, with space to come together in the main living areas and room to retreat when needed.

Check-in is from 2:00 pm and check-out is by 10:30 am. Early check-in or late check-out may be available for a fee, depending on same-day bookings.

The Neighborhood:

Wakainga is set in one of Oneroa’s most convenient and walkable pockets, close to the beach, village centre, and coastal walking tracks. This part of the island is popular with families and returning guests because everything feels close and easy, without needing to rely on a car for day-to-day plans.

Oneroa Beach is an easy walk away and well suited to swimming, paddleboarding, and relaxed beach days. From here, the coastal path connects through to nearby bays and headlands, offering gentle walks with sea views in both directions. Oneroa Village sits just above the beach and brings together boutique shopping, casual cafés, wine bars, and essential services in one compact area.

For dining, the village offers a good mix of relaxed and more refined options. Vino Vino is known for elevated meals and drinks overlooking the bay, while Fenice is a long-standing favourite for Italian classics. Daytime options include Wai Kitchen and Solar Eating House, both popular for brunch, coffee, and relaxed lunches.

Wakainga is also well placed for exploring Waiheke’s winery scene. Mudbrick Vineyard & Restaurant and Cable Bay are a short drive away and make easy half-day outings for long lunches or sunset drinks. Further along the island, Onetangi offers a wider beach, beachfront dining, and access to additional vineyards, while remaining easy to reach from Oneroa.

This location works particularly well for guests wanting to balance beach time, food and wine experiences, and relaxed days close to home. Everything feels accessible, with the option to explore widely or simply stay local and enjoy the slower rhythm of village life.

Getting Around:

Wakainga is close to the main Oneroa bus routes, making it easy to explore the island without a car. Buses run from nearby stops through Oneroa village, continue past Onetangi, and stop near key wineries including Mudbrick, Cable Bay, and The Heke, before continuing to the Matiatia passenger ferry for connections to Auckland.

Taxis and shuttles operate island-wide but can be expensive due to fuel costs. There is easy parking available at the property for guests bringing a vehicle.

Other Things to Note:

There is a plunger coffee maker at this property.

There is a reverse heat pump with cooling in the main living area upstairs.

The property runs on rainwater tanks, so water conservation is appreciated. The bunkroom on the lower level does not have a door, and some outdoor areas are elevated, so supervision is recommended for young children.

Minimum stay requirements apply, with seven nights from mid-December to mid-January, three nights on holiday weekends, and two nights at all other times.

Interaction with Guests:

The Stay Waiheke team is available 7 days a week, 8:30am–5:00pm.

For life-threatening or property emergencies, such as fire, please call 111 immediately.

Wonderful girls weekend. Location was perfect, 10 minute walk down to Oneroa. Plenty of space for all of us with everything we needed. Very clean and tidy. We loved sitting looking out at the beautiful sea view with a glass of wine in hand! Wouldn't hesitate to come back.
