View from the rooms window and restaurant area.
Valentines weekend and No facilities. Not advised on the booking information or obviously advised to show this.. very disappointed.
Room was tired and dated, was expecting more refined luxury.

A room to sleep in
Disappointing. Over promising and under-delivering.
Spa shut. Pool shut.
Faded decoration. Tired and definitely seen better days.
Staff look bored and not very friendly.

Really great place. Great staff, food and facilities
Unfortunately the hot tub was broken 😞

Breakfast was excellent on the 1st morning.. Then the 2nd morning half size portion..? Why.????
Staff who weren't aware of how to manage the shift. It was very disorganised There unfortunately was no obvious manager/ leader in site. There was a man in jeans & jumper that the young staff were going to, but he not once looked or came to see if all was well? Was he the shift leader??
Finally. I booked this hotel as it advertised its spa facilities.. It wasnt until i went to book a massage that we were told there was no facilities except pool & steam room... Why weren't we informed before hand. I would have NOT booked as the whole reason for going away was to have these facilities. We were very disappointed & complained to the spa girl. Nothing was done.
Please can someone contact me regarding this matter. People like us work hard all year round & when we want a break & book a venue of our choice, one that advertised a spa which was not in action its extremely disappointing.

The breakfast was reasonable - there was only one toaster for everyone to share and only one coffee machine working so we had to wait. The staff were friendly and helpful. The bedding was fresh and the bathroom was new but the room itself was tired - there was no dressing table.
The room was dated but the main issue was that the spa was closed but this was not shared until we arrived. We had booked as a group to make use of the facilities before our company christmas party but were not able to do this.

This is the second time I have stayed at the hotel because the spa facilities are an added bonus of this hotel and the reason I returned. Unfortunately, only the swimmimg pool and steam room were available for me to use on my most recent visit.
The steam room an jacuzzi were not functioning, the kettle in my room didn't work. When I paid for the breakfast at check-in I was not told the the breakfast service did not start until 8am at weekends and so was unable to stay for breakfast due to my onward travel plans. I requested a refund for the breakfast I didn't eat but was told that the manager would need to authorise this and was not on duty at the weekends. I have tried several ways to contact the manager since but, as yet, I have had no response. I am disappointed that the only option is to leave this review.

Very comfortable. The staff were very helpful. Everything was lovely. Beautiful view of the garden.
Nothing - everything was great

Relatively clean
Wifi didn’t work and when reported to night staff was helpful and offered to get us another room but we were already settled, next morning when we spoke to the day staff they just said “ thank you for letting us know” no offer to help whatsoever and didn’t look interested. Breakfast was very expensive £20 per person per day.

Nice pool etc
Nothing not to say bad

The hotel is slowly being improved and the staff are cheerful and welcoming. It still needs a bit of investment in the common parts and although the rooms are freshly painted in the main, the fixtures while working are looking tired. The shower was good with high pressure and easily controlled temperature. For the money, this is a good value hotel.
A bit more work is needed on the facilities like the sauna and swimming pool but at least they are there if you want to use them.

Nice welcome by reception staff.
Good towels and toiletries.
Breakfast very good and good continental choice. Coffee machine a bit hit and miss and coffee cups too small for what is dispensed, meaning the cofffe overflows the cup. Need small mugs.
Chicken ceasar salad from the lunch menu, had no anchovies( although stated on menu) and hardly any parmesan.
Uncomfortable bed. Sank in middle. Cracked sink in bathroom. Toilet dirty around cistern.
Difficult to open sash window.
Bar poorly stocked and staff unaware of how to serve requested liquer. Both had same drink but served in different style glasses.

The room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
It's December and clearly this is a hotel that hosts events, that is to be expected. There was an event on in the hotel on both evenings we stayed. The first night this was not a problem at all. On Saturday evening, however, there was an issue. We completely understand loud music at an event up until midnight - that would not be a problem at all. However, when you're still being kept awake at 1.30am it is a major issue. I think that as a point of principle, the hotel should flag up when a booking is made that there is an event that will likely cause noise to overnight guests. If we'd been aware of these events we would definitely have booked different accommodation. An expensive night's accommodation for nothing like enough sleep when we had a long drive the next day. Very disappointing - would not use again.

Great location. Clean rooms. Overall it was a lovely stay.
It’s currently being refurbished and the areas not yet completed are a bit tired or dated. The spa facilities were limited with the hot tub, sauna and steam room out of order. No body wash in the dispensers in the showers and the gym is very limited with 2 recumbent bikes, 2 treadmills and some dumbbells being the only equipment.

I hadn't visited this place for 9 years. A really nice 17th century building with lovely grounds and a good feel to it. A lot has changed since I was last there and the pool and facilities were good, although the sauna was out of action on this occasion. The room was great, with everything working as expected, nice and comfortable and quiet. The bar was a good relaxing place to enjoy the evening with very good bar staff. The location is excellent - only a short drive from places like Hamble-le-Rice, Netley and other such places along the Solent. The M27 is nearby as well, so other places further afield would be easily accessible.
I'll very likely visit again.
The breakfast is where they could make big improvements. The quality of the food was fine and on two of the mornings it was a cooked to order breakfast, which I couldn't fault. The one morning there was a buffet was a disappointment as some of the breakfast items were cold and there were no hot plates available to put the food on, which exacerbated the problem. The breakfast staff didn't seem to be proactive in keeping other items topped up e.g. twice I had to ask for the orange juice to be topped up, sugar for the cereals and even a bowl for the cereals.
The hotel was fairly quiet, so the staff weren't exactly busy at breakfast time and as such it would make me a little reluctant to book again when the hotel is busy. Nonetheless these things are easy to fix.

Room was very spacious. Breakfast was very good.
Having a voucher each for evening meal that didn’t cover the cost of meal as we paid for B,B and Dinner. Nobody told us about this.
To reach swimming pool/soa you have to go outside. Okay in summer but not winter. Also passage ways and bar were not heated.

The location. Dinner was lovely
It was undergoing renovations, so we had meals in temporary locations, there was no music playing in the background, the staff seemed helpful but were apologetic for the work being carried out. My original room was so tiny and had no soap or toiletries in the bathroom, so I asked to be moved because I had paid for an Executive Single. I had reserved a dinner seating, which on checkin was nowhere to be found.

3 breakfasts: poor, good, very good.
Location: ideal.
No hot water for shower and shave.

I liked everything. Free parking, welcoming staff, comfy bed, I even used the treadmill, pool, jacuzzi and steam room. Was only here for 1 night and didn't use the bar or restaurant.
There wasn't much I didn't like, but to fill the box I could say I'd have preferred it if the radiator wasn't turned on....Hardly a complaint as I simply turned down the thermostat.

The staff was nice and attentive, and the place looks beautiful from the outside
My room was tiny, and the booking wasn't cheap at all. The bathroom didn't have it's own switch. The light only tuned on when you opened the door. The bed was tiny, the furniture and decoration outdated, there were lots of little details on the room in the wall and skirting boards and the kettle wasn't working. There was a physical key to close the door, but I thought it was a bit of a hazard given that you needed to look from the inside with the key to lock the door properly.

Didnt have breakfast. Loved the hotel, if we are ever down this way again would definitely stop there again.
Better lighting in the rooms. There was no hairdryer in the room, even though room listed stated one.

I liked how close it was to the quays
Staff were poor and not attentive. Granted there was a wedding but no one seemed interested in the other guests. I had to wait 20 minutes to get a packet of salt and vinegar crisps. I also was served food that was cold. The room was very dated and was positioned near a loud noise like a ventilator or something.

Quiet
It was like going back in time- but ok

Food was limited in terms of menu/breakfast options but it was good.
The facilities and furnishings were tired and in need of renewal. The "fitness centre" was one bench, a few dumbbells, two bikes and two running machines inaugurated very small room. It's okay if you have low gym expectations and are willing to take it in turns to workout.

Room was lovely, comfortable bed, clean and spacious.
The spa was nice but lacked towels and toilet rolls. No staff in the spa area to ask for some.
Breakfast had a lots of choice and all options available.
We had a meal in the restaurant and it took a long time for the meal to come out.
5.0 / 10.0
Receptionist was abrupt on our arrival. Asked in an offhand way if we had arranged and early check-in. Yes we had.
No hairdryer in our room.
Restaurant experience was disgusting. Staff sloppy, slow to get to us. Initially there were only three tables with people, yet we waited ages for our food. The garlic bread looked like scraps of bread for the birds. When I complained about this, I could see Staff members talking about me and made me feel uncomfortable. Main meal tasty. But I then had to find a member of staff to ask for bill. Didn't bother with pudding, it would have taken too long. A large family came in and waited and waited so went and got their own menu's. Staff need direction. One lad with black painted nails is a credit to the Hotel. He was a pleasure to talk to. The bath in room was unsafe to stand on when showering it made you lose your balance as it was so bouncy.
I have read many of your reviews and clearly you don't act on what people are saying. You just pay lip service.

Loved the character of the hotel and the extensive grounds. The hotel employees were cheerful and helpful. The breakfast was excellent with generous portions. It's nice and unusual to get eggs cooked to order these days. The dining room was very pleasant and the bar area cosy. Although I didn't get the opportunity to use it the swimming pool looked inviting. There was plenty of parking.
The room although nice and clean with a comfortable bed was a bit bland and could have done with a splash of colour to make it more inviting. The automatic light in the bathroom was too sensitive to movement as it kept switching off when I was shaving or cleaning my teeth.

Didn’t have breakfast. Grounds very nice with plenty of outdoor seating. Bar area was comfortable. Pool was very good and clean.
No food available on Sunday evening, which I have never experienced anywhere previously.

Amazing building and grounds
Dated rooms but very comfy and clean
6.0 / 10.0
Location, grounds, manor ambiance, good size room and bathroom
Bathroom mould around shower screen, window that couldn’t be shut, TV that couldn’t be cast to.
Very young staff throughout, and lack of experience showed in the bar. £10 each to use the pool seemed a little steep considering it was unsupervised, jacuzzi was cold and sauna was out of order as it was scolding hot.

The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful . The bed was extremely comfortable. Very peaceful location.
The toilet in our room was very stained. . Picture included! The buffet breakfast was not very hot .

Staff were friendly and helpful
The lift was broken and had to use the stairs. Two people in my party were disabled and found this a struggle.
The pool water was too hot for swimming. The hit tub was a lot cooler - would have been better the other way around.

Brought back happy memories of our wedding there many years ago. The hotel has been renovated extensively and it looked very impressive.
There is more work in the pipeline to resume the Spa treatment. Charging guests who arrive little earlier( say 1 hr) than the scheduled check in time was not a good gesture.
6.0 / 10.0
Nice building, staff friendly, good pool
The food wasn't great, the spa had the smallest gym, no treatments like massage or facials, had to ask for my room to be vacuumed as wasn't very well done
