Kiahuna Plantation Unit 42, Air Conditioning, 2 Minute Walk to Beach

The unit was right next to the management office. Very close to the Beach Access walkway (a bit to the left down the parking lot). Once you go down the walkway, head a bit left until you get to the protected cove for swimming and snorkeling (and viewing the basking sea turtles in the afternoon). The unit had all of the plates, utensils, etc. we needed along with microwave, range, and refrigerator. The A/C and fans worked well. Large vanity (with interesting night-light) opposite the bedroom with a separate door for toilet & shower (stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash). We didn't test the televisions. The large balcony had 2 lounge chairs and some assorted beach equipment. The living room was spacious and the sofa comfortable for napping. The grounds were well maintained and the staff friendly. Unassigned parking in a continuous lot that wrapped around the residences.

Reception staff was friendly. Room was clean. There were 'beach toys' stored at the condo. It was a very short walk to the beach and it was easy to sign up for surfing lessons right at the beach. Really appreciated the air-conditioning since it was so warm & humid.

Lack of *responsibility* of owner and help desk, no shampoo, no soap, and bathroom was not clean: The biggest issue was the owner’s lack of communication and responsibility, especially during an emergency situation. As Hurricane Lowell was approaching Kauaʻi, we received no communication from the property about the storm, safety, evacuation, or what guests should do. Because conditions were worsening, we decided to leave the island one day early and informed the property through Booking.com before checking out. Afterward, we repeatedly requested a refund for the unused final night. The owner did not respond to us, and Booking.com also told us that they tried to contact the property by both email and phone without success. Even if the owner did not want to issue a refund, I would have expected at least a timely response and some basic communication during and after an emergency. The property itself may be fine, but the owner’s lack of responsiveness and support made the experience very disappointing. For a vacation rental, especially in a location exposed to severe weather, guests should be able to rely on the host to communicate when it matters most.
