Tobaya Ryokan

親切な対応、貸し切りのお風呂、朝食

My room was absolutely massive and was decorated elegantly. There was a garden on either side and it was nice to sit and read with a coffee. The room had two doors, one which led straight to the ladies bathroom and the other which led straight to the bath; super convenient. The bath was wonderful for soaking weary bones after exploring Hikone all day. My futon was comfy and cozy and the aircon was strong which was perfect for this summer weather. The ryokan was located very close to the castle and many restaurants so it was easy to find somewhere for dinner and breakfast. The owner offered to drive me to the station after I had checked out but I was heading to the port to visit Chikubu island (highly recommend this excursion). Overall I loved this ryokan and will stay again next time I visit Hikone.

Everything was perfect.

The historic house has a wonderful old charm and a very peaceful vibe. Because we love walking through cities, we actually found the 20-minute walk from the station to be very nice. The host was incredibly kind and used a translator app to communicate with us seamlessly. The shared bath was perfectly fine, and as a woman, I appreciated having access to a private restroom. While we didn't see any other travelers during our stay, we knew they were there from all the shoes lined up at the entrance! Most importantly, the futons were excellent; we slept incredibly comfortably and had a deep, restful sleep. We highly recommend this ryokan for anyone wanting an authentic, quiet Japanese experience.
