The old town is characterized by the half-timbered and brick houses of the farming townspeople. In addition to the drawbridge, the castle tower, and the castle museum, other outstanding historical landmarks worth visiting include the 13th-century Protestant town church “St. Marien” and Plau’s town hall, built in the Dutch Renaissance style. Another highlight is the lighthouse, offering a panoramic view right at the junction of the Müritz-Elde waterway and Lake Plau.
