A lot of issues—definitely not a first-class experience, not even a solid second. The building is a large high-rise with condos. The address is unclear, and the entrance is poorly marked, making it difficult for Uber drivers to find the drop-off location. Fortunately, I had checked Google Street View in advance and recognized the entrance. On arrival, there is a concierge—more like a security guard—who speaks no English and has no knowledge of rental apartments in the building, even in Spanish. However, he called the host, who speaks English. We arrived around noon and could have moved in immediately. We had taken a redeye flight to maximize our four-day stay. The host over the phone was unwilling to adjust the check-in time. We saw what appeared to be a cleaning lady visiting other apartments at a relaxed pace. No other guests arrived in the next three hours, yet our apartment was only ready around 3 PM. We had to sleep on the couch in the entrance hall—no goodwill here. We did not interact with the host after that, but the apartment itself was quite subpar. Advertised: The entire place is yours : 2 bedrooms, 2 beds, 1 bathroom, 646 ft² First, it is not a one-bedroom with two small beds near each other making a queen bed. No two bedroom apartment or even a studio with a kitchenette. It is more like a cheap motel room with a bed, a bathroom, and a plastic table holding a small refrigerator and microwave. No utensils, nothing. We had planned to eat out, so this wasn’t an issue, but cooking was absolutely not an option. Additionally, the building had hot water issues. Our shower was bare-bones—no shelves for shampoo, no towel hooks—and there was no hot water during our entire four-day stay. This is probably a building-wide issue, not just this apartment, but still. We had to use the sauna showers a few floors away.

Finally, during checkout, we needed to store our luggage for a few hours before our flight. Not an option. Fortunately, Yoja Hostel, a five-minute walk away, stored our bags for $3 per piece. So: no cooking, no hot showers, just a basic room with a refrigerator. Even a clean Motel 6 offers more amenities. The Building The pool tables on the top floor were fun and not busy this time of year. However, you have to go to the back of the room and flip a huge breaker to turn on the AC. The pool was cold, and there was no jacuzzi, so we didn’t use it during the day or night. The sauna was barely functional. Even after two hours of preheating, it remained lukewarm. So much for amenities. Location Not great. There are only bus stops nearby—no subway. The closest station is a 20-minute uphill walk. Uber is widely used, but if you want a local vibe, you’ll need to take a bus or walk a long way. The shopping mall is nearly empty and unimpressive. The only decent restaurant nearby is just “fairly good.” Otherwise, you’ll need an Uber. Walking around the building in the evening is not enjoyable. The waterfront is smelly and unattractive, with shallow water and rocks exposed at low tide. The nice waterfront is a 20-minute taxi ride away at the Causeway. Overall We were willing to pay more for a pleasant location and a nice apartment—to enjoy local culture without always needing a taxi. None of that worked out. I would definitely not return.
