Rachel's House

The location is ideal, right around the corner from the Altamura Cathedral and within easy walking distance to everything we wanted to see, including the famous 13th and 14th century bakeries making the incredible Altamura bread and special foccacia, plus the DiCecco cheese shops that sell only cheeses that they make. The apartment is large, with a comfortable couch and several different chairs and tables, along with a large bedroom. The shower had good hot water and pressure. Rachele, the hostess wants her guests to be as satisfied as possible, attentive to our needs. Please let her know what kind of breakfast you prefer and she will prepare it for you. We don't usually eat sweets in the morning and felt bad not eating Rachel's first breakfast of pastries- looking fresh and beautiful. Once we told her about our preference, she made omelettes and provided prosciutto and cheese as well the next morning. Very generous on her part.

Finding parking just outside the walls of Altamura is challenging. We were there right before a 2 day festival, which made it more difficult. We had to park a 15 minute walk away lugging our suitcases and belongings uphill. Once at the apartment, you need to take your bag up and down stairs through a tiny courtyard and then up again. Keep that in mind. We are both 81 and in good shape, but found this challenging. The bed in the large and accommodating bedroom is very soft, probably much to many people's liking, but for us it was too soft.

It was so indicative of Italy.

The host was helpful and provided a wonderful breakfast each day. The location could not be better. We hope to return next year.

Parking was a challenge because of frequent activities in the village that made parking difficult.
