I have lived in a 400 year old house before so this brought back some memories. The host asked us to write a positive review - and overall we had a pleasant time in the property (2 people and small child). However there are few points they should be aware of which may hepl other guests. LOCATION It was an easy walk from the station into the old town at Lubbenau. We arrived by train so parking was not an issue. The property is above a cafe/bar in an old 18th century building. They serve great pancakes (Plinsen). It's centrally located to restaurants and cafes. There is a good bakery over the road, and an ice cream parlour downstairs which was perfect for summer. The butcher down the street - Fleischerei Koreng - serves a good lunch menu daily and fantastic knacker sausages to take on walking/ canoeing trips. The closest supermarket was the Lidl (black/yellow) near the station, with a Rewe, Kaufland and Lidl (red/yellow) in the new town. The path behind the house was only slightly muddy on the first day due to rain. Around the corner is a great play park for kids, and a small stream which our daughter splashed around in everyday during the hot weather. Many canoe/kayak providers are available nearby, and we paddled to Lehde to visit the recreated old style village/ farm. The Museum nearby also was good for a raining morning. AMENITIES KITCHEN Generally this was good with oven, microwave, kettle, toaster and cutlery & plates. BEDROOM Beds and sofa beds are clean and comfy, and linen was provided. There was also an excellent fan, as the weather was very warm. LIVING ROOM There was a couple of comfy chairs and a coffee table, and a television plus VHS/DVD player (!), which we did not use. There was useful local info, including a discount card for the great waterpark in the new town, which is worth visiting for a day trip, especially with a child. BATHROOM Clean and compact.
AMENITIES KITCHEN The lighting is rather dim. Booking.com lists that the property has a washing machine but there was no washing machine. This should have been mentioned (or deleted) on the booking.com site, as we have a small child, and it would have been useful. “Essential Amenities: Guests enjoy free WiFi in public areas, paid on-site private parking, and a TV. Additional facilities include a hairdryer and a washing machine.” WIFI The wifi connectivity was really poor, and in this day and age there's really no excuse when renting a property not to be able to connect, or maintain a connection. BATHROOM The shower doors needed a very specific technique to minimise water seeping out of the door and onto the floor. This took a few days to get correct. As another reviewer mentioned, one bathroom lamp is very very dim, perhaps emitting its radiance from a dying star in a distant galaxy several light years away. There is an additional slightly brighter light in the bathroom. Be aware that the hot water is dangerously hot at this accommodation, and any children should be supervised. I’m not sure why the host does not set their boiler to a lower temperature. Tap delivery to baths or sinks should feature thermostatic controls to prevent severe scalding. Potentially this could be violating consumer safety at the property. COMMUNICATION Despite several emails to the host, no replies were received, such as sending POP (proof pdf payment). It's nice to feel your experience is personalised with small properties and not just transactional. I made sure to write in German and English as I was only receiving German emails from them, which seemed to be automated. It was my mistake to miss out the information that, unusually, towels and linen and not provided, so there was an extra charge. In my experience of substantial travelling, towels and bed linen are normally provided.
