About this villa rental
Vissala Village is a residence of five comfortably furnished houses, built of wood and stone. The site takes its name from an ancient ceramic industry, in ancient Greek Vissala meaning "broken pottery". Each of the houses in Vissala Village offers discreet independence. With 50m² of living space, they benefit from individual swimming pools and private parking in a landscaped environment. The wooden interiors provide a warm atmosphere. We know how much wooden houses have the property of providing comfort adapted to all climatic conditions.
The half-timbered architecture blends perfectly with the environment. This construction principle, unique in Greece, is typical of Lefkas. It has aroused the interest of a large number of observers and researchers. The wood used is mainly whole trunks of cypresses coated with pitch and bitumen. This treatment gives the structure a long life. Some houses on Lefkas date from the eighteenth century.
On the mezzanine there is the bedroom and the bathroom. The first floor of each villa has a living room with a kitchen and a toilet. The sofa can be converted into a standard double bed or two single beds. It is a fully equipped and functional independent country house (washing machine, dishwasher, ceramic stove, oven, microwave, large capacity refrigerator), with full equipment, air conditioners, solar heating, television and satellite internet.
The villa is easily accessible to two entrances from the provincial road. The island of Lefkas is easily accessible by the bridge that connects it to the mainland. The approach is facilitated, to the north, by the Aktion-Preveza underwater tunnel. Aktion airport is only 40km away.
Vissala is located in the municipality of Hortata. The viewpoint allows you to see Kefalonia, Ithaca, Paxos and even Corfu. It is close to the most beautiful beaches of Lefkas (Egkremni, Porto Katsiki, Gialos, Pefkoulia, Myylos, Agios Nikitas) and facing west you can see the most beautiful sunsets. Beyond activities related to the sea such as sailing or diving, Hortata, thanks to its location in the greenery of the middle mountains, allows lovers of fitness or mountain biking to indulge in their favorite activities. The development of autumn and winter tourism in Lefkas, moreover, offers a wide range of activities.
The village of Hortata is home to a hundred souls. It offers all the options of alternative tourism throughout the year. At an altitude of 625m above sea level, the temperature is always mild sheltered from the summer heat wave often heavy in the lower villages. Lefkas is an ideal destination for the quality of its residences near the best beaches of Western Greece. In autumn and winter you can enjoy the richness of the forests, indulge in hunting or do agro-tourism.
Hortata is located in a Natura 2000 protected area. The classification according to EU Directive 92/43 is mainly due to the presence of rare plants that are found nowhere else in Greece. Paeonia in particular is listed in the herbarium of the Botanical Museum of the University of Zurich – (Paeonia de Coralina – Paeonia Officinalis) it thrives on the territory of Hortata. The ancient Greek botanist Dioscourides (1st century AD) already mentions this plant.
From Hortata where Vissala is located, at 625m above sea level, you can take the hiking trails that lead to the Cross (1141m) to admire the splendour of the "paeonia" flowers in the spring and to the Eglouvi plateau, where the protected species of "Eglouvi lentils" is grown, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the island.
In Lefkas there are many historical and cultural museums, monuments and notable sites. For example, you can visit Karya, a village renowned for its traditional embroidery and weaving crafts. There are a large number of viewpoints where you can enjoy the splendour of the Ionian sunsets.
In the tavernas in the surrounding area, you can enjoy the traditional local cuisine (sofrito, maridopita, frygadeli,...), from the Ionian Islands and Greece in general. Wine (Vardea, Verzami) and raki are produced in Lefkas... to be enjoyed in moderation. Lefkas is very famous throughout Greece for the quality of its sausages, its Eglouvi lentils, its Karya jarosse and its Divari "bottarga" (avgotaraho: dried fish roe). We should not forget the pastels, nougats, honeys, pies and liqueurs. A paradise for
