SAVHE Hotel Shanghai World Expo

The place smelled amazing and the interior felt like a Ghibli film. Looks so much better in pictures! The rooms were also extraordinary when it comes to comfort and design, and they were very clean. Breakfast was extensive and had many westerner-friendly options. However, it was relatively expensive (we paid 515 for 3 breakfasts). Despite that, it was still cost effective if you were eating the dinners in the hotel which were also included in the price and quite nourishing. Loved the room / cleaning service. Immaculate attention to detail and fresh sleeping gowns each day. The beds were super comfortable and all the interior was of high quality. There were really adorable cats living on site. The laundry services were free of charge and high quality. The cleaning lady was so kind! We would definitely return. There was a mix of Chinese and foreign visitors and the hotel was adjusted to cater for both groups.

There was confusion about our payment on the first day. Booking tried to charge our card but it got rejected as it identified it as a suspicious activity (since my card provider blocked a Chinese transaction). Then it defaulted to my other bank card which I rarely use so I only keep my money there when I use the physical card travelling abroad. The lady who was managing our check in was very understanding about this and she said that we can wait till the next day to see if booking automatically charges us to avoid a double charge, since at that point I resolved everything with my bank. However, I came back to the lobby 2h later to ask about any food services available, and the receptionist was very pushy about the payment and there was a significant language barrier, and the whole experience felt quite aggressive even though I was relatively calm. The English-Chinese translation app was introducing a lot of problems with translation, and I tried to explain it to the staff. Instead I had a person having a go at me and saying "what you don't understand. It's English, no?". I'm not really upset about this, but I think a lot of people would be. I think that perhaps it would be worth creating a manual for staff on how to take the payment manually via booking/similar platforms, cause we tried to explain to them that instead of waiting for the automatic booking system, they can also run the charge manually. The gong bath experience is not available on the weekend. Other than that, some staff members seemed very stressed out. Perhaps the management is too harsh on them? Not sure. Most people seemed interested in helping us out.

Exceptional hotel. We stayed in China for three weeks and this was by far the best. Staff are brilliant and were exceptionally helpful. The bed was fantastic!

Food & front desk service is excellent.

Noisy on the ground floor as all family room with children around. Move us up to the higher floor but the other room guests is also very noisy. Talked loudly and came back late & bang the door
