About this house rental

Your private lakefront cabin 15–20 minutes from Duluth. Soak in the year-round hot tub, warm up in the sauna, then curl up by the propane fireplace. Sleeps 8 across 3 bedrooms and a lower level, with a game room (bubble hockey, air hockey, darts, Switch), snowshoes, and sleds. State snowmobile trails start off the frozen lake, so bring your sled and ice fishing gear. Dogs welcome. Great for families and groups.

Get the “Up North” experience with all the comforts of home in this 2,200 sq ft lakefront cabin on 546-acre Caribou Lake. It has lake views, a private hot tub and sauna, and a full game room. The cabin sleeps 8 and is 15–20 minutes from Duluth and about 2.5 hours from the Twin Cities.

Sleeping (8 guests):
Bedroom 1: king bed, private deck, desk, TV, coffee bar
Bedroom 2: queen bed with lake view, blackout curtains, TV
Bedroom 3: two twin beds, TV
Lower level: queen pull-out sofa, 42" TV, family room

Baths: half bath on the main level, a full bath upstairs with the three bedrooms, and a 3/4 bath downstairs.

Hot tub and sauna: The private hot tub is open year-round, and the sauna is just as good after a lake day or a snowmobile ride.

Game room and indoors: Bubble hockey, air hockey, darts, and a Nintendo Switch. The open-concept living room has a 65" TV and a propane fireplace. There are also lots of puzzles, toys, and board games, and the kitchen seats 8.

Outdoors, all year: Firepit and firewood, a grill, snowshoes and sleds, and snowmobile trail access off the lake. Bring your ice fishing gear.

Outdoors, in season (May–October): Sandy beach, private dock, and kayaks, a paddleboard, canoes, and life jackets. Yard games include cornhole, ladder golf, badminton, and horseshoes.

Families and pets: A high chair, baby gates, and a pack n play are provided. We welcome up to 2 dogs with $100 pet fee. Please keep dogs off bedding.

Work and connection: Starlink internet (151 Mbps), a smart TV in every bedroom, and a dedicated workspace.

Kitchen and laundry: A fully equipped kitchen with Keurig and drip coffee, plus a washer and dryer with pods. Linens, bath and pool towels, and starter toiletries are included.

The lake: Bluegill, crappie, and northern pike fishing, plus loon, eagle, and heron watching. The shoreline at the end of the dock is shallow with some lily pads, so water shoes are recommended. A public boat launch is nearby.

Getting around:

4 miles: lakeside restaurant and golf course
5 miles: grocery, liquor store, and gas
8 miles (15 minutes): Costco, Target, the mall, and restaurants
12 miles: Superior Hiking Trail
13 miles (20 minutes): Canal Park
16 miles (22 minutes): Spirit Mountain

Good to know:

Road and parking: About a half mile of the drive is dirt or gravel. AWD is recommended in heavy snow, and the road and driveway are plowed as needed. There’s parking for 4 vehicles and no street parking.

Well and septic: The water is well water and safe to drink, and a Brita filter is in the fridge. Please conserve water, since the septic system is sensitive.

Cabin quirks: This is a cabin turned year-round home, so expect a narrow spiral staircase to the lower level, baseboard heat, and window AC units instead of central air.

Internet: Starlink speeds can vary with weather and the number of users.
Check-in is after 4 PM and check-out is 11 AM, with keyless entry and a new code for every stay.

We especially enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife often from the tiki bar. Caribou Cove is equipped with everything you could possibly need or want; Indoor and outdoor toys, well stocked kitchen supplies, and thoughtful touches throughout the property to use or just have fun noticing. Two things we didn’t know ahead that would have been helpful: 1. If playing in the water, it’s necessary to have water shoes. 2. If you are older or have even slight mobility or balance issues, it’s difficult to get down to the water, shower safely, or go down the stairs to the lowest level of the house. This last point is not meant to be shade against the host who is responsive and wonderful. This place is not listed as handicapped accessible so it wasn’t an expectation. If you are reserving for a multi generational stay, consider that aspects of this magical place may be difficult for older members of your group.

We had a great visit at Caribou Cove. It's so clean, cute and cozy. There is alot to do with outdoor yard games, the beach, paddle board and kayaks, hot tub, sauna...it really has everything. The yard is beautiful and plenty of space to enjoy it. Lots of thoughtful little extras are provided as well, such as coffee and smores ingredients. I can't say enough good things about it, and communication with the host was also great. You can tell they really want to make your stay the best possible.
