Stay in an 1889 Victorian mansion in Milwaukee’s arts district, just steps from the lakefront, parks, dining, and nightlife. This spacious 6-bedroom, 3.5-bath home is perfect for groups, featuring a grand foyer, large dining room for 12, and a fully equipped kitchen with two butler’s pantries.

History of the home: The Willard Merrill House was built in 1889.
The residence is on the National Register of Historic Places. The building has a unique history, and was used for a variety of purposes in the past. Mr. Merrill, who ordered the construction of the home, was a Wisconsin legislator and Vice President at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance company. He moved to Milwaukee from Rome and paid $7,000 for the construction. Later, it housed The Association of Catholic Women and was used as their clubhouse and offices. The home was most recently owned by Leon Travanti, a retired UWM art professor, who is well-known locally for his Circus Parade posters.

Very nice place in an excellent location. 5 friends stayed for 4 nights at the Prospect Mansion. It was a great time and perfect for us. Very close to steps that lead to the lakefront, also very close to the free tram that goes to other parts of the city. The mansion is spacious and comfortable, great kitchen with 2 pantries. Beautiful woodwork everywhere and lots of artwork. A great find!
