The host was incredibly nice, responsive, and helpful. He went above and beyond to ensure that we were accommodated and cared for, despite the room itself having maintenance issues. I could not have asked for a nicer or more hospitable host, which was on top of the fact that he was the ONLY ONE WORKING IN THE BUILDING! The fact that we received the quality of care that we did while he was doing all of the cleaning and concierge duties really speaks to how great this place could be if they just solved the problems with the building and hired more people.
The drain in the bathroom of our room was clogged so when I tried to shower I ended up flooding the bathroom and could barely shower.
It seems like there are issues with a lot of the rooms that need to be fixed by whoever the owner is.

Stick with realistic expectations and this is a great, very reasonably priced place to stay just north of central Porto in a residential neighborhood of 3-4 story, older buildings. It is in a remodeled, older building. But the bed was comfortable, room was reasonably sized, bathroom had adequate counter space, and our room on the 4th floor had a wonderful view across the northern city to the ocean. And included a welcome sunset the day we arrived exhausted and jet-lagged. Owner was very responsive to our needs, including holding our luggage for a couple of days while we took a river cruise upriver. There was access to a shared, small kitchen where we heated water. We stayed a total six nights here and felt very comfortable. Again, it was a great value in Portugal's second largest city.
I am fine with rough edges in a motel. My GF less so, and she complained of inadequate bathroom lighting. (We mentioned this to the owner and he said he'd remedy this.) There is no elevator, so you (or likely the owner) must haul your luggage upstairs. If aesthetics are you thing (rather than good value), you may want to look elsewhere. But all in all we found the place endearing.

Short walk to the heart of the city. Close to the subway.
Comfortable bed and room.
There was never anyone at the reception. His phone was on answering machine, he didn't call me back.
My bus left at dawn, I politely asked him to call me a taxi. He was impolite and harsh. Another guest rushed to my aid and the next morning the taxi was there. When I wanted to pay it, it turned out that it had already happened.
The whole building could use a little "facelift".
