Our casita (little house) was given its name from its location above the Turquoise Butterfly gallery. This vacation rental in Santa Fe, New Mexico is situated next to a beautiful courtyard and deck overlooking the river. Serene views, area adventure and quality time with loved ones await.
When you choose Turquoise Butterfly, you will be centrally located, making it easy to explore the city. Located one block away from the plaza, or otherwise known as the heart and soul of Santa Fe, this casita is close to many great restaurants, galleries and shops. Arts districts including Canyon Road and the Railyard are within walking distance. Not to mention, a grocery store is just one block away, ensuring you can stock the fridge with all your favorite snacks for your stay. Another popular attraction that brings people to Santa Fe is mountains and high-desert landscapes. These sites are just a short daytrip away.

This rental was built in the early 1900s and has an old-world charm to it indicated by carved wood doors, tall ceilings and hardwood floors. Step into vacation mode as you walk through the door and find a cozy, light-filled room with a skylight and wooden architectural highlights. An arched fireplace (non-operational) adorns your view with its high mantel. The living room offers a beautiful leather couch, TV, and dining area, ensuring you make yourself at home.
The kitchen has a full-size refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, oven and microwave. Handmade red and turquoise tiles reflect Santa Fe colors and make the kitchen an inviting place to cook. You will love time spent here preparing snacks and home-cooked meals for your crew in a stunning, clean kitchen.
The bright colors continue into each bedroom. The primary bedroom is complete with old turquoise doors and a kiva fireplace (display) welcoming you to a wonderful night’s sleep. The third bedroom is connected to the primary. Through the primary bedroom you will find a lovely primary bathroom with two petrified wood sinks, a tub/shower combination, and an alcove complete with a washer and dryer. The second bathroom includes a large, spa-quality shower.

The home was well appointed and had everything we needed. It’s so close to everything. We walked around town everyday to find new sights. It’s a block or so from the Loretto Chapel, Dan Miguel Chapel and oldest house. Kakawa is about a 10 minute walk and with the time if you love chocolate. The only problem is there really is little privacy. To access with bathroom you must go through other rooms. The living room is in the center. To the left, you go through a bedroom to get to the kitchen or to a bathroom. To the right, you go through a bedroom to another bedroom to do laundry or access the master bathroom. The bedroom doors are double swinging doors that do not go the whole way to the floor. If you want privacy, that could be an issue.

The lay out of this rental is such that you have to walk through one or two bedrooms to get to either of the bathrooms and the kitchen. (I don’t know why I didn’t realize that when I booked it.)I did try to contact the host on arrival as I had questions about unloading the car and parking.I got a message saying they received the message and I am very important and they will get back to me. They never did for the four nights I was there. I did figure out to park in a motel parking lot that is down the block and across the street. We were not able to park on the street in front of the VRBO at all.We did not have a soup dish in one of the bathrooms so we put the soap provided on the plastic it came in. We also looked around for Kleenex as there was none in the rental and found a box in the cupboard in one of the bathrooms and used it.The wall around one of the bedroom windows is really breaking away and it looks bad. You can see the metal underlayment underneath. I think that ought to get fixed right away as well as some odd areas with screws sticking out of the walls where something was hanging at one point and there was a loose bolt on the mantel in my bedroom that didn’t seem to belong away where. On the plus side, the location of this rental was good and the beds were comfy. I would not rent this again as it seems overpriced for the layout and size of the unit and the attention to detail was missing.

It should be disclosed that one bedroom is accessed by going through another and that their shared bathroom requires one to pass through. In the other bathroom, there is a note posted that the sink drains slowly. In fact, it is clogged and could be cleared with little effort. Rather than post a note with a smiley face, the host should have the clog cleared. It’s nasty to wash and brush your teeth as the sink fills with the dirty water. Last, the property was said to have a “smart” tv. We discovered that the one tv is not a smart tv and had no internet connection in any event. (FYI, Costco sells them for about 400.). We called the after hours number to learn if we were missing something about the tv and were promised a return call from the “local” team. No return call was ever received. It is a nice place and a great location. It was a shame these little things were encountered. For the price, a working sink and modern tv should have been included.
