Great location in Sommerville - very walkable and close to public transportation. Met the very nice owner who lives in the space above. We travel with a small dog so the yard space and walkable neighborhood were perfect. The amount of space was a bonus. The bathroom, kitchen, and living spaces were clean. Because this is a dog friendly place, my only recommendation would be to have a hypoallergenic, waterproof mattress encasing - with a washable mattress pad on top. Our dog is trained to sleep in its portable crate, but the mattress looked stained from prior visitors. We would stay here again - but I'll ask about bedding provided.

This place is charming, and the location was good for us. We were visiting our daughter who lives near Union Square, and we were able to walk to her place easily. The front room was bright and open, and the bedroom cozy. Loved the blue and white plates we had breakfast on. The mattress was a little saggy in the middle, and the pillows not great for me. You do have to climb into a clawfoot tub to take a shower. We stayed here in early March when it was quite cold outside, and the house stayed nice and warm. Communications with the host were easy, friendly, and direct.

The home was in a great location for our trip. We found street parking to usually be easy to find. A few things that would be helpful for your stay- it is an older home, so the sound carries very loudly from the upstairs unit, where there are sounds of a happy home (running child, vacuuming, 6-6:30a waking up for the day), so you may want to bring earplugs. A sound machine was supplied, you may want to bring a usb plug for that as well. I was glad we brought an extra blanket, as the comforter for the fold-out had quite a bit of dog hair. If you stay, we recommend the Life Alive Organic Cafe nearby- amazing food!

Options are limited in this area so take that into account. First the positives: It is a very large apartment so you will have plenty of room. It was well stocked with everything you would expect. It was also very clean. The owners live upstairs and are very nice. The property manager was very responsive. Things to take into account: It is an old house, so it is not quiet. The floors squeak on your level, but more disturbing is you can hear everything from the owners on the second level. Shower or toilet flushing at 11pm. Kids running around at 5:30 am. You will hear it. If you have mobility issues you will not like the front stairs or the tub/shower access. And for those who are squeamish, there was at least one mouse running across the kitchen. It may well be the best option around, especially if you have a pet, but you should be aware of these issues.
