About this cottage rental
Enjoy everything Northern Michigan has to offer at the Romanski Retreat! Summer is gorgeous up at the lake with boating, swimming, local beaches, fireworks, bbqs on the extra large back deck, campfires under the stars, local craft fairs, air shows, and you may even catch the Northern Lights!
Fall and Winter activities include hunting, ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. The home is perfectly located to enjoy Tip Up Town!
The space
Romanski Retreat features a welcome area with all house information, a local guide for your convenience and a place to chill your beverages. The home has 2 bedrooms, one being a bunk room that sleeps 6 and a master that sleeps 2. There is 1 full bath with an extra large shower and a built-in hairdryer. The living room has a couch with a chaise and converts into a full-size bed to sleep two extra guests. There is a large flat screen with Roku available as well as a variety of board games and books. The full sized kitchen is equipped with all major appliances, a duel coffee maker that makes a full pot or individual cups, a dishwasher, and all things needed to make any meal. There is also a charcoal grill available outside for a BBQ!
Other things to note
The home comes with a dining table and chairs on the back deck as well as lounge seating to enjoy the fresh air. There are additional camping chairs, beach chairs, life jackets, sand toys, and a cooler for adults and children located in the shed. Cornhole boards are also located in the shed for you to enjoy. There is a pack-n-play located in the bunk room for families traveling with little ones, and a portable high-chair!

We used the house primarily to sleep when we were not golfing or visiting friends on the lake. All good on that end.

My family stayed at Romanski for three days over the Fourth of July; there were 7 of us in total.
Though the cottage is small, there is a ton of charm, sleeping arrangements were easy due to a room with two bunk beds, and they have one of everything.
Want a wine cooler? Got it. Keurig? Yep. Porch seating with a pergola and an outdoor fan? Fire pit? Charcoal grill? Kids toys? Fully stocked kitchen and grilling utensils? Children's plates? They have that too.
Just about the only thing Romanski doesn't have is central air. However, they do provide several tilt-adjustable floor fans that worked some magic for us during our stay. We also brought a box fan and placed that in the front window of the living room which really helped to keep things cooler.
There is a shed in the back with even more goodies. Cornhole, kids toys, etc.
The only thing anyone in our family had to say as a negative was the mattresses. The master bedroom mattress is rock-hard. Additionally, one of the bottom bunk mattresses slopes, so you find yourself rolling to one side.
These were minor inconveniences to us - as we spent quite a bit of time on the back deck, grilling, or spending time nearby at Houghton Lake.
I would stay at Romanski again and highly recommend it to families or groups of friends who want a nice retreat with a lot of charm.

This was not a great experience. The refrigerator was freezing our food and we lost a lot of our food. The house was very very hot I know that they didn't have air conditioning but they could at least put a window unit in. This is a deal breaker for us to rent this home again unless there's at least a window unit. We were so overheated we felt sick to our stomach. The toilet overflowed and there was no plunger besides a sink plunger so we had to go and buy one and this happened at 3:00 a.m. in the morning so we were not able to use the bathroom until we could get to the store. The cushions on the patio furniture had helicopters and leaves and look like they haven't been cleaned for a while. The house was in a good location plenty of places to go. But I don't think we'll be renting this home again.
