Set within captivating walled gardens just 5 minutes’ walk
from the beach and harbour.
A hidden treasure with influence from the renowned architect Sir Edwin
Lutyens, the White House was built as a summer villa before the First
World War, at the height of Edwardian exuberance, by the previous
owner’s grandfather who had commissioned Lutyens to remodel
his 17C house in Leicestershire, Papillon Hall. Part of the design for
Papillon was incorporated into the design for the White House.
Extensive and beautifully presented family accommodation is laid out
over two floors following a recent comprehensive refurbishment to
create a fun house with lovely interiors which suit both entertaining and
comfortable family living, boasting excellent style and attention to detail
and finished to a very high standard. One of The White House’s key
architectural features is the loggias which provide an idyllic link to the garden perfectly positioned for dining and to enjoy the evening
summer light. Most principal rooms enjoy a splendid garden outlook
and there are also glimpses to the harbour from the Master Bedroom
suite.

We had the most incredible stay at the White House over New Year. The house is truly breathtaking on arrival and beautifully furnished throughout. It’s rare to stay somewhere with such a well-equipped kitchen, and we really loved being able to cook and enjoy meals together there.
The house is spacious and made for gathering. We were a party of 12 and celebrated both New Year and a birthday, which made it extra special. A highlight was our visit to the Old Fort in Seaview for a fantastic birthday lunch. The local bus stopping right outside the house was a bonus and a fun, easy way to get around.
A walk along the beach is an absolute must—peaceful, scenic, and the perfect way to unwind. We would love to return during the summer months to experience the house and surroundings in a different season. Thank you for such a wonderful and memorable stay.

This is a lovely old house with plenty of space for all. Good facilities, comfy lounge and large kitchen / diner to cater for all. Hot water could have been better, but it is a huge old property.
