About this space:
The Gage/Murphy Mansion is a crown jewel from the early days of Prescott and located just 2 blocks away from Courthouse Square and Whiskey Row. Originally constructed in 1895 as the family home of business tycoon E.B. Gage, and later railroad tycoon Frank M. Murphy, this restored monument of local history has been just steps away from the heart of Prescott for over 125 years.
The space:
The entire home is 7274 sq ft with a total of 10 units spread out amongst 3 floors and a basement, each unique to one another in size, layout, and design – come back and stay at them all for a different experience each time! You will not find another gem like this in all of Prescott.
Unit 4 - “The Sunset Suite” is upstairs on the 2nd level and is approx. 660 sq ft with 1 bed/1 bath. The space has 1 large bedroom with a king size bed and 32” TV, a living room with a 49” TV, a bathroom with a stand-up shower in a large cast iron tub, and a full kitchen for your use and enjoyment. The kitchen is enclosed in a sunroom style room where you can take in the amazing views of the Prescott sunsets as well as Granite Mountain. The Sunset Suite has a Victorian romantic charm that makes it the perfect getaway to reconnect and relax.
Guest access:
The building itself has two main entrances. One is through the front door of the home which can be accessed from the front porch on the north side of the house that faces Gurley St. The other is located through the Mansion’s side door on the West side of the building, which you can see from S Alarcon St. The side door is closer to the parking, but the main entrance is a bit more “grand” – feel free to use either.
Unit 4’s entrance is best accessed through the Mansion’s main door. Enter the building through there, walk up the stairs to the 2nd level, and the door to “The Sunset Suite” will be to your left.
Other things to note:
Please respect and take care of the home during your stay. Much of it is original and cannot be replaced.
As much of it is original please expect some creaking floors and other noises and sights that come with a home that’s well over 100 years old. We think it adds to the appeal! But not everyone may think the same way so, just a heads up 😊.
Parking is first come first serve and is limited to 1 vehicle per unit. There is an upper level parking lot accessed via the private road immediately to the south of the building, and a smaller lower level parking lot on the same level as the building. Street parking is also available.
The location is amazing - just 2 short blocks from the square! However, like any other hotels or stays that are near a city center there may be some noise (mostly passing traffic) to deal with. The south side and lower floor rooms (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 2B) are quieter. And the ones closest to Gurley St (4, 7, 1B) are slightly noisier. Some guests notice it, others don’t, but we thought it deserved at least a mention to consider when booking.
All rooms have at least 1 portable A/C unit for those summer months when it can get a little warm. The larger units have 2 in them. There are fans in each room as well. For the winter months there is a boiler system that generates heat for the house and all rooms.
All TV’s are subscribed to Hulu Live TV which includes 75+ channels and all Hulu content. Other streaming apps are installed but depending on the service you may need to login to them using your own account info to access content. Please log out of them before leaving to prevent the use of your account by others.
All guests have access to the common areas of the home as well as the outside common areas. While you are free to explore the inside of the Mansion please be considerate of other guests that may be staying and do your best not to disturb them, including keeping noise down to a reasonable level.
There is a shared laundry room on the south side of the building. Laundry supplies are not provided but there are 2 washers and 2 dryers available for use if you provide your own.
A commercial water softener is connected to the house. Its still not advisable to drink directly from the faucet but the showers and linens should feel nice! Enjoy!

We loved our stay in the Sunset Suite! It was spacious and comfortable, filled with period furniture. The kitchen and dining area afforded a beautiful 180 degree view from Prescott Mountain over the town to Thumb Butte. We had bright and sunny morning and gorgeous evening sunset views! Easy walk to downtown eateries and shopping.

We stayed in the Sunset Suite early Oct 2025. The room hadn’t been cleaned well. We found hair all over—floor, shower, toilet—crumbs on counters/tables, food in the sink, dried contact on the floor, etc. Upon alerting the host, we were offered to have our room cleaned later that day, but typically aren’t fans of having others back in our room after unpacking and having all of our stuff out.A prior guest left a review warning future guests to bring toilet paper. We’re glad we brought it as only 1/2 roll of toilet paper was provided; we ran out early in the morning. No backups were provided. We looked.The room had VERY limited privacy. There’s an 2-3 inch gap under the front door to the hallway as well as a 2-3 inch gap in the bedroom to the outside hallway. Every conversation/activity was audible from the hallway. The only curtains provided were in the bedroom, and they weren’t long enough block access to the adjacent house outside. The kitchen/living area were without curtains, so you couldn’t walk from the bedroom to the bathroom without being seen by those on the Main Street. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and made it difficult to sleep. The last night of our stay, the heat kicked on, and we weren’t able to control the temperature in the room. It was a sauna, even with air conditioning units on and fans running, we were so uncomfortable. The temp outside wasn’t cold—in fact, warmer than the first night when there wasn’t heat on.Only perk—location is excellent.
