Historic 2 bed gatehouse in private parkland

The property is wonderful VICTORIAN French chateau design and in a great location for exploring the New Forest. Automated gate access made it private and parking was very good.

KITCHEN. Fridge very small with tiny freezer compartment which didn’t freeze. Microwave was in a cupboard which had been planned for a large fridge freezer. Kettle needed descaling. Only one tea towel. Inadequate amount of china and cutlery. Only one wire rack in the oven. No welcome pack only a packet of biscuits and small bottle of milk. Lots of plastic fake flowers everywhere. BATHROOM. Needed rubber anti-slip mat in the shower. Towel rail not working as dependant on the central heating which was not needed, in other words no separate control. UPSTAIRS. Only one hand towel for two bedrooms. Extension cables were provided in both bedrooms as wall switches were inaccessible. No waste paper bins in the bedrooms. Only two pillows per double bed. No spare batteries or bulbs, one bulb failed in overhead bedroom light and no replacement available. No torches available in the building. OUTSIDE. No cushions for metal garden seats. Rotary clothes line wouldn’t stay up. Railway line very close, trains start at 05.37 and run till 23.40. No outdoor lighting in patio or garden. Building work taking place on neighbouring property undergoing restoration. Would have like a visitor book and information on the history of the property and estate.

We liked the quirkiness of the property

Shower in the bath, but I understand why and it was a bit cold the logs on the lock burner wouldn’t burn very well

The property was spotlessly clean, quirky but in a good way and in a great location. The expansive grounds were fab too even though the weather wasn’t in our favour. We couldn’t fault it and will definitely be booking another stay.
