Known as the Ringelnatzstadt, the town boasts a meticulously restored historic centre with picturesque alleys, buildings, and squares. The town centre hosts many attractive and individual shops with a diverse range of products. The imposing mill towers characterise the entire townscape and are considered the town’s unofficial emblem.
The Ecumenical Way of St. James and the Via Regia, one of the oldest and longest land routes between Eastern and Western Europe, pass through Wurzen. Cycling and hiking trails run through the town, with cycling routes continuously being expanded. The Mulde River flows through enchanting floodplain landscapes. Surrounding woodlands and numerous allotment gardens encircle Wurzen like a green belt.
