Ocho Rios Ocean View Villa at the Palms

I booked online with Agoda several weeks in advance. It was for 1 night but it was for July 18th, the night of SumFest at Plantation Cove. I received a confirmation of the booking and a receipt where we paid through email. We arrived late in the evening of July 18th (due to the traffic and thousands of people attending Sumfest) to check in, shower and get ready to go to Sumfest. We arrived at the security gate and showed our reservation to the security personnel. He took our IDs and was looking at his paperwork. He then advised us someone was already in this rental, they had checked in earlier that day. I said I have a confirmation for tonight and a receipt where I paid. He said there was nothing he could do as someone was already in the unit. The security said I would have to contact the booking site to get my money back. He also said this is a frequent occurrence with double bookings happening in this gated community. We were put in a very stressful situation as we had to get back out in all the sumfest traffic and try to find another accommodation. We went to several hotels and they were all sold out. Some laughed and said we have been sold out for months. (Due to Sumfest) We finally found a less than desirable hotel that had a vacancy in ocho rios. Very far from the venue as the place I reserved was right across the street from plantation cove. I later contacted agoda to get a refund of my *** to *** reservation back. I was told they would have to confirm with the property first. I was told the property advised we were a no show so no refund could be given. A NO SHOW. I am from the USA and have never been to Priory or that part of jamaica before. How would I know it's a gated community, we spoke to a security guard at the gate (who turned us away) and the community is almost right across from plantation cove if we didn't try to check in. I never got my $ back. This place is a scam. I would never ever book anything in the entire community.
