Sonesta Hotel Cartagena

The first initial experience was a bit skeptical. I was placed in the wrong room but it was quickly fixed and accommodated and the new room was perfect. Spacious rooms, and beautiful resort. It’s cost effective and would stay there again for the price.

I booked this hotel through Agoda using PayPal because I am reluctant to use my debit card when traveling to countries with known banking issues. After I checked out, the property contacted me regarding alleged nonpayment. I showed them my booking receipt, my PayPal receipt and my bank draft screenshots. The PayPal receipt clearly outlining that the merchant has been paid in full yet they continue to harass me for payment. The hotel itself was quite disorganized, and the staff was not suited to handle a busy holiday weekend. It took me over two hours just to check in. The the room had ants and the water pressure was terrible. Had to use bottled water to get the shampoo out of my hair. This is not a place for couples. This is a family hotel. With plenty of screaming kids running all around the place. Small children wandering around even in the restaurant. Not a very relaxing trip. Furthermore, all water to the hotel stopped on the first day of my visit. The restaurant staff were friendly and the housekeeping staff were friendly. But all in all the management needs to know how to approach their customers especially if it's dealing with an issue on the back end of payment that is not a customer facing issue. Furthermore, they need to figure out how to check people in. They let me check in early but would not give me a key and made me stand back in line for over an hour just to get my key. After I was already checked in. Ridiculous. This was my fifth stay at this property. I can say with all confidence it will also be my final stay. My advice to other travelers considering this place. Caveat emptor.
