Room was nice and clean. Hotel had a fantastic classic look and feel. Perfect place to stay for shows at the Auditorium theater across the street. It's a very old building so the heating and hot water situation is a little off compared to newer hotels but nothing that would deter me from staying there again for a show. It has a nice bar on the 1st floor that could use more than one bartender when there are shows scheduled at the Auditorium. Bartender was great, but needed some help with a bar full of patrons.

NEGLECT! I KEPT CALLING ASKING FOR A SPACE HEATER N COMPLAINING THE HEAT DIDNT WORK IN THE ROOM THEY SENT SOMEONE UP ONE TIME AND THE REST THEY DIDNT CARE FOR THE STAY WE WAS FREEZING IN THAT ROOM

The Congress is my favorite place to stay in Chicago. The location is perfect an Steve the doorman makes everyone feel like a VIP. The architecture is beautiful, dating back to the time of the Chicago Exposition. It is easy to walk to most of the attractions that you came to Chicago to see from the Magnificent Mile to China Town.

Tablet in room said breakfast ended at 11, but when i called at 10:40 they said it ended at 10. Lobby and room were nice but hallway needs updating and maintenance. Also mattress in room was very hard.

The room was fine was nice.... If you arrive in the afternoon, nothing is open until five.Just so you know, you'll have to go elsewhere for a drink or whatever...

I extended my stay one day and went to the front desk to make sure reservations were merged for continuity. They said it was all set and that I only needed to get my room key reprogrammed after noon between the two reservations. That was fine to me. Around that time period the next day, I was showering and received a call from security asking why I wasn’t out of the room. I explained what I had set up with the front desk, unsurprised my arrangement hadn’t been communicated fully. He said I needed to get it handled, ignoring that I had just said I did handle it. I returned to finish my shower, and barely out, in a towel and wet, a second security guard banged on my door and said I needed to leave the room. I told him I just spoke to security and had the whole thing worked out the day before. He didn’t care. He said I needed to check out and work it out downstairs. Furious over the incompetence, rudeness, and lack of communication all around, I checked out completely and will never stay at this hotel again.

The room had a funny smell to it and the hot water didn't Get hot at all. The water was backing up in shower it wasn't flowing while I showered.

Two night ‘security guards’ were rude, especially one. When walking around to explore a different floor from our room without any signs/barriers saying we couldn’t, and also when entering the front of the hotel late at night once, we were treated as suspicious. Their tones were rude, and they demanded to see our room keys both times. The second incident mentioned happened two nights after the first. The guard clearly recognized me and my sister from the room exploration, so to speak, but visibly and audibly backed off slightly once he realized my husband was with us, and hadn’t been before. I didn’t get any names, but I really don’t appreciate being talked to like a naughty child rather than a paying adult customer.

Clean room, quiet hotel. Nice amenities in the room such as toiletries, bottled water, mini fridge. The classic style of the lobby is beautiful and i appreciate that they kept sone of that old school charm like original wooden doors. Would stay again.

The location is excellent, and that is the only positive. However, the condition of the property is difficult to justify: the building is old, doors are poorly maintained, and the furnishings in both the reception area and rooms appear worn and outdated. In addition, the ACis inefficient in rooms.

Had some problems with the bathroom door and fan but they were taken care of right away. The only other issue was you are unable to adjust the temperature of the room. This is an old hotel so not surprising the heating system is outdated. Check in staff, doorman. Bar staff and kitchen staff are all very attentive..

The breakfast menu was good but I was staying all week and I felt a little entrapped to pay for full breakfasts every morning since I stay there the year prior and there was plenty of complimentary items at the buffet that was included to fill me up. The free breakfast item options were pretty thin. I understand the people from the street walk in and just try and take all the free breakfast buffet but sounds like a security problem and not a guest problem.
