Casa Austera

Casa Austera was a super chilled and laid back hostel, the volunteers were lovely and the it was a perfect place for me as I was not looking for a party but just a bit of peace and tranquility, and next to the mangroves!

As it is next to the Mangroves, it is particularly laden with mosquitoes, something to take into account, but with spray and the mosquito nets over the beds it was fine!

Great place to stay, such a lovely tranquil setting just a short walk from the main street and beach. Nico was so kind and helpful and all the volunteers were so lovely. The place was so clean and we were made to feel very welcome. It was so easy just to chill in the hammocks all day.

Wonderful spot, great hostel and the owner Nico is awesome.

Not on the beach but that's not a big deal. Close to restaurants and quiet at night.

Nice owner, but he is not around, the property feels abandoned.

So when the property is neglected by the owner, some people make themselves at home and start managing. One of the guests really tried to take over and unluckily for me she didn't like me so when I was supposed to check out I didn't get picked by my shuttle and they really made sure I would leave the town going nowhere on the busiest weekend. Also, the hostel is extremely overpriced, Selina prices but nothing close to the quality of Selina. I felt robbed after I saw the hostel. The property is extremely dark, amd it is not a 4 bed dorm but 6, also there s no real pool as advertised.
