Those 236 steps (or the path) might be too much for some, but doable for people with average condition. Moreno delivered suitcases up and is a wonderful, friendly person 😊

We stayed in a castle!! The tower is still the original, while other parts were rebuilt in the early 20th century. The decoration feels authentic while still providing modern amenities and comforts. We fell in love with the woodwork (those window blinds!) and the old staircase, and our children had a blast in the garden. For practical matters: The kitchen is very well equipped. We appreciated the strategic heaters in the bathrooms, as we visited in February. There are plenty of bedrooms and even hidden living rooms. There was a stash of toys and games for children. The region is so beautiful. We could see the river, mountains, sunrise and sunset from different windows of the castle. It's a climbers' paradise, with via ferrata routes starting at the valley, as well as an adventure park and playground for children. There are also several hiking routes and a spa that looked great but we didn't have time to visit. Communication with the hosts was impeccable. The caretaker Moreno is a wonderful person, very knowledgeable about the region and enthusiastic about the castle. He and his wife showed us around and told us all about the village, the restoration of the castle, and the region. The owner Karl is a medieval art and history professor, and the care he puts into the preservation and authenticity of the castle shows. He was also stellar in communicating, despite the time difference. He was incredibly gracious when we had a small accident, troubleshooting and finding a good solution very quickly. We can't wait to come back!
These aren't flaws of the property, just natural consequences of it being A Castle. Castles weren't built for easy access: it's a steep walk uphill from the parking lot. The staff will carry your luggage up in a cute motorised trolley, and for a fee carry it back down (plus your garbage). You need to walk up and down yourself though. On rainy days I recommend staying in and enjoying The Castle rather than risking the slippery path. Also, if you visit in winter like we did, take into account that it's A Castle, that is a huge building, and not easy to heat up uniformly. The rooms are warm, but walking the corridors you might find out why kings wore mantles. :) Bring warm clothes!

Absolutely stunning views, lovely community, incredible castle with interesting history, in a perfect location. Communication was excellent and all our feedback about aspects of the property that needed improvement were taken on board quickly and amiably. The staff who service the property were efficient and incredibly helpful, eager to assist, and prompt in their replies.
Some of the beds were uncomfortable and there were some minor maintenance issues but this was all addressed with the owner.
