Vila Galé Fortaleza

Spacious and clean room, comfortable beds and pillows. Decent breakfast selection, with tapioca, cuscuz, pancakes and waffles prepared on demand along with a selection of fruit juices that was delicious! Nice pool. Location right across from the beach. The hotel also has its own space by the beach, although it didn't include a pool or the tables closest to the ocean.

While it's a famous resort chain, Vila Galé seems to be past its prime. In the time I was completing my check-in, 1 hotel guest mentioned he needed to change room because of a leak, and 2 hotel guests showed up to complain that their room key had stopped working (I experienced that as well: in my 2-night stay, my key had to be reset multiple times). One of the 2 air conditioners in our room was not working (although the hotel sent someone to fix it fairly quickly). Hotel staff doesn't provide the level of flexibility and helpfulness you'd expect from many resorts, especially during low season: no flexibility with late check out even though the hotel was objectively not even close to its capacity, they refused to let me bring their luggage scale to my room (I had to bring my luggage to the lobby), they made a big deal out of changing my wet towels into dry ones (their rule is to grab towels only once a day... But again, I'd expect more flexibility during low season). All in all, not worth the resort-level hotel rate. My parents (who were with me during my 2-night stay) moved to Gran Mareiro hotel afterwards (same street, so same premium location by the beach) and had a much better experience at a lower rate.

The place was excellent in comparison to what you get in some other hotels. The breakfast is excellent and all the staff makes you feel welcome and at home.

i wasn’t happy with the food in the barraca at the beach, it doesn’t compare to the food served at the hotel, and also customer service.
