Had a wonderful time. The rooms are so fun with the decor and offerings. The community center across the street offers a nice touch with fitness and the pool. The bar at Grace has the best drinks and everything else that you need is less than 2 miles away. Love it here! Only suggestion is to maybe add a microwave somewhere for guests to use. We went to the community center and used theirs.

This quaint hotel was exactly what we were looking for for our overnight stay. It was absolutely beautiful. Having a bar and restaurant on site was especially convenient. The rooms were spacious and beautifully decorated.

I travel constantly for work and usually stick to basic hotels, but I decided to splurge at Carnegie House for my last week in State College. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the “4-star” label at all. Cleanliness was the biggest issue. The room was extremely dusty, especially behind the nightstands—like it hadn’t been touched in ages. The shower overflowed because the drain barely works, and the grout is filthy. There’s also a section of caulk missing on a tile in front of the shower. I purposely don’t have housekeeping come in most of the time, but I knew from the start this room wasn’t cleaned well. There’s been a Reese’s Piece under the bed since day one, and I left it there as a test. Even after I did request service—after using every towel in the room to mop up the flooded bathroom—nothing was actually cleaned. Toiletries I used weren’t replaced The washcloth left in the shower stayed there Pink gel on the bathroom tile… still there No vacuuming Basically the bed was made and towels swapped. That’s it. For a place calling itself 4-star, the upkeep and cleaning felt more like a 2-star property. Now, the positive: The on-site restaurant, Grace, is genuinely good. The staff cares, the food is solid, and the margaritas were honestly the highlight of my stay. My only gripe is that there’s no microwave in the room—which feels intentional so guests rely on the restaurant. When I asked how to heat up leftovers, I was told to take my food downstairs so the front desk could have the kitchen warm it. I had a box of pizza… so that wasn’t happening. I did try the steak one night. It wasn’t bad, just forgettable—not what I’d expect from a 4-star hotel restaurant. They did comp a drink after I mentioned it, which I appreciated. Bottom line: I’ve been in State College for a 13-week contract and saved this place for last because I was excited to try it. I ended up disappointed. For the price and the rating they advertise, the experience just wasn’t worth it. I really wanted to like Carnegie House, but it needs major attention to cleanliness and room maintenance before I’d ever consider coming back.
