Porthmadog is the starting point for steam trains across the stunning Eryri (Snowdonia) landscape to Blaenau Ffestiniog or Caerforn, and it is also home to a wide variety of unique shops and eateries. Borth Y Gest, a picturesque village with cliffs and bays, is easily accessible by foot or by car from the city. Portmeirion, an iconic Italianate fishing village, is conveniently located nearby. Portmeirion, made renowned as the setting for The Prisoner and the finale of Cold Feet, is located on a craggy clifftop on its own private peninsula, surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and woodlands. Castles may be seen in the vicinity at Criccieth and Harlech, and there are many beautiful, untouched beaches, such as Black Rock Sands, that stretch as far as the eye can see. Zip World Slate Caves and Bounce Below are also easily accessible and offer a wide range of activities suitable for the whole family, from exhilarating zip lines to underground caverns to explore.
