Newly Remodeled spacious units, minutes from mountains, inlet, downtown and airport

Very spacious, nice owners living on floor above. Quiet.

It was a beautiful apartment, very spacious and clean. The owners left us some waffle mix and instructions on how to make it. It had a washer and dryer in the apartment. The location was very nice, very woodsy.

The kitchen was equipped exceptionally. Lots of room for storage of clothing. Enjoyed space to be able to enjoy outside and the covered area for parking of our car.

Initially door lock did not work. Took 15 minutes for owner to respond - so some anxious minutes of concern. He did get the problem corrected and all was good after that. Also we knew had steps but it is a long staircase up almost equal to 1 1/2 flights. So plan accordingly when packing so perhaps don't need to bring all your luggage up - it was a long climb for us seniors.

We chose the location for being on the outskirts of Anchorage, relatively close to the airport for our trip home. I also liked a promised variety of bed types and the words “newly remodeled.” But our unit was not newly remodeled, and believe me, I would not have booked if I knew my 92 year old mother’s choice for sleeping would be a trundle bed or a “click clack” type futon. It said single bed, and the photos I saw in April did not reflect the true situation of the beds (and other things). I will say more about this below.

This listing has two problems: 1. Photos I see today did not exist when I booked in April. There were no exteriors; I thought I was booking in a suburban apartment complex, not a rural home. That wasn’t a problem, it was wooded and quiet. I’m just saying the listing gave me a far different impression than the reality. For example, the photo of the VERY tall full bed with the trundle wasn’t there, nor was there a photo of 24 steep outdoor steps to the unit. 2. I can now see that this single listing pertains to two different units on the property, but the photos don’t tell you which photo belongs to which unit. It does appear that the 4BR unit is “newly remodeled,” but the 2BR we stayed in is not. Toilet was stained black at the bottom. Bath sink was stained and scratched, nothing new about it. Some furnishings, appliances, and rugs have received hard use. Bath tile grout is in need of a deep scrub. Floors felt sticky. Bedding was lesser quality and mattresses, though comfortable, are the kind that don’t have an edge — get too close to the edge and they will roll you right out. It happened to my 92 year old mother, who’s quite fit, but also vulnerable to injury, as is anyone her age. A waffle bar and s’more makings are lovely amenities, we appreciated them, but the problems I’m describing ruin the value proposition for the guest. I’m a STR host myself, so I’m not likely to have misunderstood the listing. I believe photos that didn’t exist before have been recently added, perhaps in response to complaints, I can’t know. If I could have seen the difference between the two units, I definitely would not have booked this one. Not at $350 for one night, including a $125 cleaning fee. For what it’s worth, the good reviews make it clear that the 4BR unit is very popular. I haven’t been able to identify any reviews that speak to the 2BR unit I booked, now that I’ve looked closer.
