    Right by the Central Canal, a lovely walk and an easy base for downtown. The room was spacious and decent, breakfast was included at a good rate, and the front desk was staffed when I arrived after 1am following a flight delay. The downside: I booked a king room with a mini fridge, and the fridge didn’t work. The only option offered was a room change, which didn’t make sense for a two-night stay. I raised it again the next day, but no one came to fix it. The hotel is also very lean on basics. There’s no drinking water in the room, so you refill at the lobby dispenser, which is mostly hot water. Lobby coffee is drinkable but unremarkable, and bathroom amenities beyond towels are minimal. Good value overall, but cost control goes a bit too far for the guest experience.

    I was extremely disappointed with my stay at the Hampton Inn Indianapolis Downtown IUPUI. What initially seemed like a reasonably priced hotel quickly became anything but after I was charged $58 per day for parking. That fee is excessive and should be disclosed much more prominently before guests book. It dramatically increases the overall cost of staying here and makes the hotel a poor value compared to other options in the area. I also specifically reserved a non-smoking room, yet the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke from the moment I walked in. The odor lingered throughout my stay and made the room feel dirty and poorly maintained. For a Hilton property, I expected a much higher standard of cleanliness and attention to detail. Unfortunately, the issues didn’t stop there. The hotel felt understaffed, and when concerns were raised, they didn’t seem to be addressed with much urgency. The walls were thin enough to hear conversations and hallway noise, making it difficult to relax or get a good night’s sleep. Parking was inconvenient despite the premium price, and overall I felt like I was paying luxury prices for an experience that fell well below expectations. These concerns are consistent with many of the other negative experiences guests have shared online. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this stay simply wasn’t worth the money. Between the $58 daily parking charge, the smoke smell in a non-smoking room, the noise, and the disappointing overall experience, I cannot recommend this hotel. There are plenty of other hotels in downtown Indianapolis that offer a much better value without surprising guests with excessive parking fees or compromising on room quality.
