Barefoot Caye Caulker Hotel

Nice contemporary hotel across from beach. We had 2nd floor balcony room facing street which gets some noise throughout the night so bring earplugs and you will be fine. Ivan at front desk was awesome. Sam did about half the requests.

Just stayed for a night. very well located and good facilities Suggestion: provide a key drop for those checking out before office open at 8am

Arrived early and went to the hotel and asked if we could leave our bags until check-in time. The person at the desk said okay and told us that she would text us when they would have the room cleaned so we could check into room *** early and that she would text us when it was ready. She tried the text at our request and it worked immediately. We went for an long walk. We came back to the hotel and sat in the lounge area and saw them take the linen and towels from the room so we continued to wait. No call, no text and the person from the front desk walked to the empty room several times and even spoke to us once to ask if anyone had entered the front desk office. As the normal check-in time came up we still hadn't received a text so we inquired about the room. On paper we had already checked in and it was pre-paid in USD. We were told that there were NO Vacancies but they would call other hotels and find a similar quality and move us there. We went across the street ro have lunch at the hotel's restaurant at OUR expense to await the next text. It never came. We returned to the hotel and was told that there were NO VACANCIES on the island. She wanted to refund our money in Belize currency for the amount that they got from the booking company (Agoda). I told her that I would not accept Belize money and she said that they couldn't refund in USD. I told her that I would simply dispute the credit card payment and GUESS WHAT, she told me that the room *** was empty but she would have to call in the staff to clean it. She asked if wanted her to do that? Really? I am on an island, I bought 2 round trip tickets for a 45 minute ferry ride to get there, we waited for 5 hours for the first text and 1 hour for the second text and never received either and she is concerned because she might have to ask someone to walk 15 or 20 minutes back to their work location to clean a room that had been sitting empty for 5 hours without having been cleaned. The room is visible from and 10 steps in front of the hotel office. DUH, YES, call someone in!!! They didn't have to call anyone. Turns out that they had staff in including her that they repurposed to clean the room. They were actually going to put my wife and me out on the street on an island where they had told me that no rooms were available because they didn't want to clean room *** which we had already paid for and completed the paperwork for check-in. I am 80 years old. This trip was a birthday gift for my wife from me. I was embarrassed even though she was kind about it. They did offer me a free beer and gave my wife a free Sprite. I politely declined.
