    Our stay in Heritance Negombo was absolutely exceptional. Starting from welcoming staff, rooms, pool, inner and outer environment was really lovely and calming. Meals were great and delicious.     We have spent approximately two weeks traveling across Sri Lanka, staying in multiple high-end properties. Unfortunately, this hotel stood out as the only one where service, communication, and operational standards fell noticeably below expectations. Payment and Communication Issues The room was fully prepaid three weeks prior to arrival. However, two days before check-in, the hotel requested the physical credit card used for the booking. This requirement was not communicated at the time of reservation. For international travelers who rely on digital wallets or do not carry the original card used for payment, this can create unnecessary inconvenience. Clear and upfront communication of such policies would help avoid last-minute complications. Check-in Experience The arrival and check-in process could be improved in several areas: Handling of verification: I was asked to access banking applications and present verification in the lobby, which felt uncomfortable and could have been handled more discreetly. Device handling: When requesting Wi-Fi access to complete the process, a staff member took my phone to input details directly. While possibly intended to assist, this approach raised privacy concerns. Luggage assistance: Despite the hotel’s positioning as a five-star property, luggage assistance was not proactively offered during check-in. Wi-Fi Access Process Unlike other hotels I stayed at in Sri Lanka—where Wi-Fi access was streamlined via QR codes—this property required staff-assisted setup. This felt less efficient and inconsistent with current hospitality standards. Service and Hospitality Sri Lanka is widely known for its warm and attentive hospitality. In this case, interactions felt more procedural than welcoming, with limited effort to acknowledge or ease guest inconvenience during the check-in process. Cleanliness and comfort Please see attached, I went to help myself with a cup of tea but only found that the spoon were used and not cleaned. In term of comfort in a 32° celsius feel like 40° air temperature, it was unbearable checking in the lobby which was enclosed with no air conditioning. Overall Impression While the property itself may meet certain physical standards, the overall guest experience did not align with expectations for its price point or star rating. Improvements in communication, staff training, and guest handling procedures would significantly enhance the experience. PS we stayed at room 515 Recommendation: Travelers may wish to confirm payment policies and service expectations in advance, or consider alternative properties that demonstrate more consistent hospitality standards.
