Hotel Kapok - Shenzhen Bay Branch

Couldn't be happier with this hotel choice! Though the rooms show significant signs of wear and tear, they are well maintained and we'll appointed. Loved the high ceilings, strong pressure rainshower falling from 3m high above, the freestanding bathtub that is a focal point of your bed view and the roomy living area with sofa and armchair. The color palette is mature but it grows on you and by the time we left we fell in love in the plum color. We didn't try the breakfast though we had a look around the Buffet just before end of service at the 21F Chinese restaurant. The selection is decent and satisfying for most travellers but, being vegan, I'm glad we gave it a pass. In that department, still, nothing beats St.Regis in Louhu. The service is friendly though not overly welcoming upon checkin or check out. Perfectly unobtrusive could be the word. They speak limited English but of course everyone uses digital translators in some shape or form. The ground floor cafe slash reading lounge has an impressive selection of books and coffee table albums with generous seating that is quiet and refreshingly different from most hotel lobbies. best part of course is the location - just a stone throw away from MiXC Shenzhen Bay massive shopping, dining and leisure complex with plenty of boutiques, cafes, restaurants and fashion outlets, including our favorite Qing Perma, as well as fully stocked high-end supermarket OLE. You get seamless access to Shenzhen Bay Cultural Centre and the jogging paths around the bay itself, perfect for morning walks and even serious bird-watching! Though the hotel is adjacent to the Shz Bay Arena, with nightly gigs and crowds outside on the streets every evening, we found the room facing North perfectly quiet, though lacking any dramatic view except for the tennis courts complex which we went to check out as well and even managed to get a training session over the weekend. Overall, there is something for everyone here and we enjoyed our stay so much that we even extended our stay for one extra night making it a a 3N4D escape! Only pet peeve - though located on the non-smoking floor, we could detect the stench of cigarettes in the corridors more or less intense depending on the day. Unfortunately, this is China. What impressed me the most though was the housekeeping service standard. We forgot to leave the DND sign on on the second day and to our demise realized the housekeeping made up our room during our long morning walk. I had left our travel documents, credit cards, and plenty of cash ON THE SAFETY deposit box rather than locked inside, some of it just laying next to the wallet. Yet, when I looked into the closet, everything was in its place, left untouched. Truly, this builds a lot of confidence in the hotel standard and training. As a seasoned traveller, we know this is not a rule of thumb and accidents happen.

We chose this hotel because it's the least expensive within walking distance to the new luxury 萬象城, and can walk to the nice ocean front park where you can try the drone food delivery. The room is well designed and quite new, and of average size, our room has partial ocean view and view of the bullet shaped , 華潤大樓, nice. Room has free shower robe, water, Wi-Fi, safe, sneaker, toothbrush, etc. Location is excellent, walk to the new mall, ocean front, public park, pink shopping street, art museum, drone food delivery booth, the best is it's very close to the Shenzhen Bay border crossing. It took us less than an hour from the hotel to hong Kong airport, by taking a private deluxe van booked via k-look. All in all, highly recommend, good value.

Lobby looks cheap, without proper guest resting area. No swimming pool, average gym.
