Buyer beware. This is an OK hotel but is not a 5 star hotel. You can do much better in Seminyak for the same price. This hotel is very old and tired. They are trying to update it but that just means there is construction all day. The pool is nice enough but despite being on the ocean it overlooks the metal roof of the building they built between the pool and the beach. The gym is a 3/5 and despite having a “spa”, there is no sauna or steam or jacuzzi - just a couple of treatment rooms. The only actual bar on the property is closed for renovation. The beach is covered in seaweed, which they do not rake up like the true 5 star hotels do and it’s on make-shift marina, so the water in front of the hotel is full of boats and the oil and gasoline that comes with that. The location is decent but there is much more action and things to do etc a bit north. As others have noticed there is an issue with the hot water in the shower - warm but not hot. Finally, the pool was closed for half of the Saturday that I was there, which they didn’t tell me when I booked it but only the day before - obviously they knew in advance. The staff is nice and friendly but the hotel is a 3 star not a 5.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at InterContinental Sanur, beginning August 11, 2025, following a delightful stay at The Samaya Villa Ubud. I Upon arrival, I discovered a live cockroach in the wardrobe. Instead of an immediate room change, staff simply brought insecticide, showing a shocking disregard for hygiene standards. Multiple calls to the front desk went unanswered. When I visited in person, a manager dismissed the matter with irrelevant excuses about room view. The new room’s sink drained so poorly that it was left dirty after use. I tolerated it only because I was already exhausted from prior complaints. The next morning, staff stopped me after breakfast claiming no deposit was on record. Despite my proof of a 2 million IDR credit card charge, I was treated like a trespasser until a senior staff member intervened, later attributing it to a “system error.” This series of events left me feeling neglected and outraged. I later checked online reviews and found many guests reporting the same issues—poor hygiene, outdated facilities, and weak service—with management repeating empty promises. The front desk staff need urgent retraining, and if such conditions continue, the property will severely damage the InterContinental brand’s credibility.

Great location and the room was really spacious with an amazing enclosed balcony and beautiful view of the garden. The daily breakfasts could not have been better and the staff incredibly friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend the spa treatments. Such a beautiful experience.

Our room was huge and really beautiful with a lovely outdoor lounge with great views of the ocean. The service from the staff was absolutely impeccable. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, the only thing that was slightly disappointing was the lunch and dinner menus, with both being very similar at Pier8 and Layang Layang, it would have been great to have some more variety. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here

Honest Review of InterContinental Hotel The hotel has potential, but overall didn’t meet expectations. Pool: View ruined by an ugly restaurant roof not shown in booking photos. Kids’ pools were identical — one good for 3–5 yrs, but too shallow for 5–8. Adult pool was too deep. Many seats lacked cushions, uncomfortable for parents who have to sit for hours watching the kids play in the water. Gym: Missing cable crossover and pull-up bar. No bench press either, though free weights were available. Limited training variety. Breakfast: French toast, pancakes, and beef omelet were great. Iced latte was excellent. Dining area was beautiful. But bread options were limited, and butter was rock hard from being stored on ice. No sliced vegetables to make a proper sandwich. Room: Nice upgrade, but insulation was poor. Wind noise scared our kids, kept them awake. Great view and AC, but bad sleep ruined it. Kids couldn't sleep and they felt it was like a horror movie. Kids Club: Great for under-7s. Our 6-year-old loved it. Not enough for older kids. Shower: Water pressure was weak — showers took forever. Strange for a 5 star hotel to have this weak water pressure on the shower. Wi-Fi: Decent, but not top tier. Minibar: Overpriced — felt like a trap. Area: Loved nearby Icon Mall and Three Monkeys restaurant. Overall Rating: 2.8/5. Wouldn’t return.

We stayed for 3 nights. Every minute at the resort was amazing. The food, the hospitality, the rooms are super luxe and we want to take the bed back home. The bed was amazing. Big shout out to the breakfast at Layang Layang was super! The only thing is the beach where you could lay on the beds, however with high tide there is a lot of trash, and with low tide you can not really swim. But that’s not something they can work on. We recommend this stay to everyone!

My 2 concerns would be the size of the pool area if going at peak time and also the beach - there were not many loungers and water full of boats so couldn’t go for a swim next to hotel and for a beachside 5* hotel this was disappointing.

I liked the position of the intercontinental but found the facilities lacking. I do realize that one restaurant was closed for refurbishment but the one that was open left food wise a lot to be desired.

the room was large but the shower wasn’t working properly, the plumbing is open? I watched my gray water from the sink flow into a hole in the ground… But most of all, I had a do not disturb sign out but they ignored it and called me to open my door for a complimentary dessert… I thanked them but also let them know that I’m going to sleep, please do not call or knock anymore. Then they called AGAIN to check how I was doing… I had to unplug the phone because the trust was lost. I understand the intent but it’s a hotel with international travelers, we’re all on different circadian rhythm… I really really needed sleep after 26hrs of travel.

Our stay at the InterContinental was nice, however I could not give it 5 stars because checking in was problematic, and the beach was not cared for very well (seaweed was not cleaned up, unlike surrounding hotels). It may have simply been a bad day, but check in was heavily delayed!! Also the beach is quite nice but unlike the surrounding hotels, the seaweed was not cleaned up, which was a shame. The food was good, the service was fantastic, and their spa is wonderful. The pool is actually one of its best features. The rooms are beautiful and the beds were the best throughout our entire trip (3 weeks). However, their products (shampoo/bodywash/lotion) could use some updating…..you would expect a 5 Star establishment to use better quality, if not Sensatia. Finally, the weights in the gym could also be updated. Overall, still a really pleasant stay, and we did enjoy the service, grounds and facilities.

Beautifully laid out resort, with exceptional swimming pools and grounds. The main swimming pool was far too warm to swim in beyond 8am and was equivalent to the air temperature, so opted for the smaller pools instead. Breakfast options were good, however, not exceptional for the price. Rooms were spacious and clean, with ample space for two people. Interior decor was beautiful, however, overall experience does not amount to the cost and luxury expected.

I want to be fair when I make this review because overall it’s a nice hotel with great staff. However , there were issues. 1- the main restaurant was closed for refurbishment and you could only use Pier 8 , that said, Pier 8 is in a fantastic location. 2- the hotel is being refurbished throughout and it’s my understanding that the pool and Pier 8 will be refurbished in Jan 25. 3- the hot water in our room was cold /tepid for most of our stay until we were told to let it run for 5 minutes first and even then it was only warm. 4- Normally in a hotel you put down a deposit and pay the rest when leaving . In this case you put down $400.00 and they then text you to say you have exceeded the amount and please put down more. This was first for me. 5- the hotel feels disjointed with a huge pond in the middle with no access around it. Essentially you have the front reception and then the pool and beach side restaurant. 6- not overly friendly reception staff. The positives. 1- nice room with large balcony / second living area. 2- nice breakfast 3- great restaurant and pool staff. 4- nice pool if somewhat very hot to sit around and very warm water. 5-great location. In summary I would stay again , however ,wait until all the refurbishment is done.

OMG. This hotel was amazing. It was toght on the beach and near all.ttprs of restaurants and bars. It is also right on the boardwalk. The pools are amazing. The breakfast was also amazing, i recommend adding breakfast to your stay. The staff was perfection

The F&B staff completely incompetent. Really polite staff but just couldn’t do the job or insufficient training. Waiting over 40mins for Breakfast and poached eggs turned up as boiled go on and on but F&B was terrible. I also fell outside at the front entrance as water everywhere without appropriate signage I said at checkout experience wasn’t good the staff didn’t have the decency to ask why!! Enough said to be honest.

Great location and wonderful staff. The team there are friendly and could not do more to help. The property is overall very tired and needs real work to get it up to a proper standard. The hot water is hit and miss, the decking areas are in poor repair and tripping hazards are everywhere. The sheets and pillow cases should be changed more frequently, shower supplies are not replenished and tiles in the bathroom are literally crumbling away. We will not be back to this hotel any time soon and would rate the overall experience as far short of the cost of it. This is at best a 3.5 star location for us. The cost of our stay was simply far too expensive for the experience that we had. We cannot praise the staff enough here. They were all warm, welcoming and personable at every turn. We shall call in to say hello and thank them again for their kindness and hard work next time we are in Bali. We will not be staying with any InterContinental properties in the future after this experience.
