We recently stayed at Southern Sun for one night to celebrate our anniversary, and unfortunately, the experience did not meet our expectations for a 4-star hotel.
Prior to our stay, I had requested a complimentary anniversary amenity and also arranged to upgrade our room. Initially, I booked a queen room but was advised that only a twin room was available unless I paid for an upgrade. I agreed to the additional cost; however, upon arrival, neither the room upgrade nor the anniversary amenity had been arranged. After raising the issue with reception, they kindly offered to arrange the anniversary item while we went out for dinner, which we appreciated.
Breakfast was another disappointment. The selection was limited for a hotel of this standard, there were no bowls available for cereal or yoghurt, and we had to request coffee ourselves rather than being served. Overall, the breakfast service lacked the attention to detail expected from a 4-star establishment.
In addition, the shower floors in the room appeared worn and not particularly clean, and they would benefit from refurbishment.
While the staff were polite and attempted to resolve some of the issues, the overall experience fell short of what we expected from Southern Sun, particularly for a special occasion. I hope these areas can be improved for future guests.
