    I first stayed at Koh Ngai Resort about 25 years ago. It was fresh then, but in the intervening years it seems little has been done to maintain the initial high standards. The location makes up for the tired rooms though.

    Stayed three nights. The staff was very helpful. We had to land at the resort next to this and there was no pier. The staff came over and carried our baggage to Koh Ngai Resort. We had to take a trail over that was a little hard , but we made it. This was due to rough seas and the longtail could not dock at the pier. This was no fault of the resort. Restaurant had good food, and there is a small store there.

    Cheap-feeling resort that sits between the luxury resorts on the rest of the island and the two camping grounds and represents the worst of both worlds. I honestly would have preferred the latter after talking to people at Light my Fire which is one of the few places not associated with a resort (and a perfect little refuge). The resort felt soulless and the breakfast was so bad I didn't even try the restaurant and skipped the New Year's dinner I had already paid for. Thankfully you can fairly easily make the way at night and at high tide, though not without good footwork and a flashlight. Only saw a few sea krait which are deadly but docile if you don't step on them. And contrary to what the front desk will claim, you can absolutely rent a kayak on the main beach for (multiple) full 24h days, which allows you more freedom of movement since the resort only allows for 2h per day and until 5 pm. Really got the impression they wanted to keep me there. The bungalow on the beach was itself alright but overpriced compared to other islands. I didn't use any other of their services. The house beach is also nice if you just want to rest and probably if you have small children, but the reef is almost dead and snorkeling was just depressing. Tip: Go to Paradise Beach for the tiny bar and the reef there and around the island to the other side per kayak to find small beaches and untouched corals - you have to time it due to currents, but it's beautiful and completely isolated.
