A Historic Jeddah Hotel — But Heritage Should Not Mean Lack of Renovation Casablanca Hotel is one of those hotels that carries a real sense of Jeddah’s hospitality history. For anyone who remembers old Jeddah, there are details here that immediately bring back memories. However, after my stay, I found myself asking one question repeatedly: are some of these details intentionally preserved as part of the hotel’s heritage, or have they simply not been renovated? Location, Parking & Arrival The hotel is located directly on a busy main road, which makes access somewhat difficult. There is no valet parking service, and I could not find proper dedicated parking for hotel guests. The available parking is basically an open lot that also appears to be used for the hotel’s service vehicles. During my stay, I also did not notice a bellboy or luggage attendant readily available in the lobby. More importantly, while I was carrying my luggage myself, no staff member approached me or asked whether I needed assistance. There was simply no initiative to offer help. For a hotel of this size and history, visible luggage assistance and more proactive service would significantly improve the arrival and departure experience. Weddings, Noise & Elevator Access This is an important point for anyone considering staying here: the hotel hosts wedding events, and they can significantly affect the experience of regular hotel guests. During weddings, the sound from the live band and music can be very loud. Combined with the fact that the hotel’s internal soundproofing is almost non-existent, noise from inside the hotel and surrounding areas can be heard quite clearly. For this reason, I strongly recommend requesting a room on the 5th or 6th floor, particularly if a wedding is scheduled during your stay. Another issue is elevator access during weddings. At busy times, hotel guests may face difficulty using the elevators because of the large number of wedding attendees, particularly with the women’s wedding halls located around the basement and first-floor areas. From my experience, there was no clear priority or alternative arrangement for staying guests when elevator traffic became heavily occupied by wedding attendees. Weddings are naturally an important part of the hotel’s business, but hotel guests should not have their normal access, comfort, or movement within the property disrupted because of an event. Better crowd management, elevator arrangements, sound control, and consideration for staying guests are needed. Room, Maintenance & Amenities On the positive side, the cleanliness of the room was excellent. This was definitely one of the strongest aspects of my stay. Drinking water was available, as was instant coffee. Coffee capsules were also provided, but unfortunately they were not replenished. Maintenance, however, needs more attention. Some facilities in my room were not functioning properly, including the windows and electric curtain system. The shower also needs maintenance. Hot water takes a long time to arrive, and on some occasions, there was no hot water available at all. These are basic room functions that should be consistently maintained regardless of the age or historical character of the hotel. Television & Entertainment The television experience also needs significant improvement. The TV signal was poor and unclear, and the selection of available channels felt extremely limited and outdated — almost reminiscent of the old antenna-TV days. As a result, I ended up spending most of my entertainment time using YouTube instead of the hotel’s television channels. Reliable TV reception and a reasonable selection of local and international channels should be considered a basic room amenity today. Heritage or Lack of Renovation? This is probably the most interesting aspect of the hotel. Some parts feel almost exactly as they did 25 years ago. The hotel still uses the traditional “Do Not Disturb” and “Please Clean My R
