    The Hotel was closed. We reached out to hotel owner from local people's help. He then managed us to another hotel. Needed to pay extra charge for our package there.

    This hotel felt like a great balance of an old-school Kathmandu experience but still kept up to somewhat current standards. The style of the room is more on the traditional side with a 4-poster bed, screen door to classical styled balcony, and heavy crown molding around the ceiling. Felt a bit like stepping back in time but in a good way. Bed was huge and comfortable and plenty of space in the room. Bathroom has some very fancy fixtures and lots of room, and a rain shower that unfortunately didn’t get very hot. Only other complaint with that is there is no elevator. Not a huge issue since I think there’s only 5 floors and the porter carried my checked bag on his back up the stairs, but just good to know. Overall I would still definitely recommend this room. I loved the size and the feeling, and enjoyed a smoke on the balcony several times. As for the area around, I will say avoid the two massage/ spa places in this same alleyway, and the basement dance club on the corner, all just scams. The little cafe next door is nice though and the owner Jack helped me catch a bus to Pokhara.

    Thorong La is a decent guest house to crash in Thamel for a couple of nights. It's centrally located and affordable. However, if you are expecting something fancy and posh, please check other options around Thamel.
