    I chose this hotel because of it's location 7 min. drive to Rausu Port where the whalewatching boats depart). The traditional Japanese room with it's faint smell of tatami mats and the comfy futon made the stay a true Japanese experience (add the onsen and delicious food and you have THE experience). The hotel is a bit older but staff made up for it.

    We enjoyed our stay at Livemax Resort Shiretoko Sea Front. The room was spacious and came with an attached bathroom, providing plenty of comfort during our stay. The dinner served at the hotel was delicious and offered great value for the price. The onsen was good and a nice way to relax after a day of sightseeing. Overall, a comfortable and worthwhile stay.

    It's not the worst, but it's not a place I'd want to spend a long time at either. I mean, there's an onsen and they have 2 nice massage chairs, which I loved. You have to reserve the restaurant ahead of time or else you'll have to go into town several km away to get food and the staff isn't super helpful when you mention that you might want to have have dinner somewhere. They slid over a paper that has a list of a bunch of restaurants that are several kilometers away, some of which are closed and none of which have online delivery options. I ended up biking into town in the dark for 30 minutes each way to get dinner, which was fine, but there really are no dining options nearby. But if you're desperate, there is a Seicomart right in front of the hotel. But this area is a little depressing after begin on the north side of the peninsula, which is a bit fancier. It's a little more rugged on this side. Had this place cost ***, I couldn't complain, but I ended up paying more like $180 (without dinner), which is more than some very fancy hotels I stayed at on the north side of the peninsula that also had great ocean views. I think the options on this side just aren't as good. Again, you won't die here, but I probably wouldn't book a week here!
