Great hotel super clean good space for 2 people. Exceptional exceptional location

The accommodations were spacious, immaculate, and meticulously maintained. Standout amenities included refillable complimentary beverages, high-quality toiletries, and an in-room washer/dryer combo—particularly helpful for families. The room also offered a tranquil river view, ideal for bird and people watching and enjoying the early April scenery. The opposite side of the property faced a charming street with easy access to restaurants and shops, made even more delightful during cherry blossom season. However, the bedding presented a challenge. Each guest was provided a uniquely firm pillow—akin to a vacuum-sealed bag of popcorn kernels—which none of us found comfortable. While pillow preference is highly subjective, it was disappointing that no alternative or standard pillow was available in the room or closet. As a result, sleep quality suffered significantly on our first night. Where the experience truly fell short was in guest support. Communication with staff was limited to a tablet interface in the room, which was not user-friendly—especially for iOS users. Staff responses were delayed or sometimes nonexistent, and the voice chat volume was too low to be usable. When I raised this concern in person, it was dismissed without resolution. The tablet was simply handed back to me. In the unstaffed lobby, guests are expected to call staff using designated numbers. However, even after calling, it could take several minutes for anyone to appear—if they did at all. There were times that I resorted to email, given the failures with the other prescribed communication methods. Assistance with restaurant reservations was inconsistent. On one occasion, I asked for help securing a same-night dinner reservation and was told I would receive updates. Hours passed with no follow-up; we had to reach out ourselves to learn that no reservation had been made. The update would have been helpful if provided in real-time. With two young children, that lack of support added unnecessary stress. On another occasion, we were told a reservation was confirmed, only to arrive at the restaurant and be informed they don’t take reservations at all. In summary, while the physical accommodations were excellent, the service and communication fell well below expectations. Unfortunately, this had a meaningful impact on our overall experience.

The value for the location is unbeatable. Situated on a very cute and quiet street, just steps away from shopping and food. The in room amenities are great- laundry and microwave makes you feel right at home. Staff is exceptional. Not your typical hotel but very efficient and has everything we need. This will be my go to place to stay whenever I’m in Kyoto.
