Beautiful, relaxing hotel. If you can, upgrade to the stunning bridal suite. The nicest I’ve ever stayed in, (there’s been quite many) Gorgeous decor, incredibly comfortable four poster bed, lovely wool carpet that needs to be cleaned, but excellent quality carpet, wallpaper, bedding,, lamps, original sash windows, the most spectacular ceiling, pretty antique furniture, and mirrors. etc etc. the wonderful bathroom with a free standing slipper bath was a treat. Not the best for bathroom amenities, no body lotion!?!, nothing to add to the bath, tap water advertised as mineral water… but my goodness.l, what a special room! The crows or jack daws in the trees outside were a brilliant soundtrack, and the sense of serenity in the room was noteworthy. Dinner was not good at all. Very poor and very disappointing.. The quality of the food in relation to the prices, does not add up. Frozen vegetables, with no oil, dressing, seasoning, frozen chips?!??, undressed and too small salads. There was no aspect of the meal that excited my taste buds. Partners steak was pretty poor for the price. Minimal, over priced, not the highest calibre of wine selection, desert was the weirdest cheesecake I’ve ever tried, well looked after by the staff and our booth table was pretty. Breakfast was ok, better than dinner. Such a beautifully decorated bar which was completely empty on a Friday night. Great bar man. Great Guinness. I would absolutely return to stay in that wonderful room but I would eat elsewhere in town. Communication from hotel was below par and it took three days snd multiple attempts to see menu options. This could be an outstanding hotel with a few tweaks. I’d love to know their interior decorator. 💖
