A Truly Unacceptable Hotel Experience and a Serious Hygiene Issue My mother and I stayed at Villa Beaumarchais from 12–16 August, and unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. Our difficulties with the hotel began long before our stay. We originally had a booking for March, but due to the war in Israel and the cancellation of our flights, we had to reschedule. After an extremely long and exhausting process with the hotel, we ultimately rebooked for 12–16 August and had to pay additional money. We were therefore very much looking forward to our long-awaited holiday. Unfortunately, it ended very badly. Upon arrival, we noticed one or two ants in the bathroom but chose not to complain, assuming it was an isolated issue. However, on our final night, we found numerous ants throughout the room, including all over my mother’s bed and the surrounding area. The situation was so distressing that we were unable to sleep that night. Our room had been cleaned and serviced every day, which makes it particularly concerning that the issue was not identified or addressed before it reached this point. At approximately 22:00, we reported the situation to reception. We were told the hotel was fully occupied and that there was nothing that could be done. The only solution offered was for a staff member to come and spray insecticide. However, there was no housekeeping available to replace the bedding afterwards, meaning we would have had to sleep in a room that had been sprayed with insecticide. Even more disappointing was the way our complaint was handled. We were told that we were disturbing other guests, rather than being treated as paying guests with a legitimate hygiene concern. No manager was available, and no alternative room or adequate solution was offered. My mother is 67 years old, and having to deal with this situation late at night without any suitable alternative was particularly distressing for both of us. Following our stay, I submitted a formal complaint and requested compensation. The hotel acknowledged it and said it had been forwarded to management for review. Almost a week later, I am still waiting for a substantive response. For a four-star hotel, we expected a much higher standard of service and guest care. The presence of ants was disappointing, but the way the situation was handled was even more unacceptable. Based on our experience, I would not recommend staying at Villa Beaumarchais.
