St Christopher's Bruges Hostel

Short bus ride from the Bruges main rail station/bus stop, and a short walk into the old town. Room was clean, comfortable, and had a fan!! Kitchen and toilet were only shared with 2 other rooms in the apartment. All the staff I met were super helpful, and the downstairs bar was good. Do note that the property seems pretty old. The stairs to the upper apartments are pretty steep and some dont have railings. The private single room I got did not have a sink like in the demo pictures but it fit the written description. There were always some bugs flying around in the center of the apartment but they didn't bother me or my food much.

1)double private room with private bath but had shared bath. 2) Needed to climb three flights of stairs. 3) private room had tons of mosquitoes and the hotel had no remedy when we asked. 4) NO AC OR FAN AND IT WAS ABOUT 90F or 32C 5) The roof was in the attic space. Small and slanted low ceilings. Staff apologized but offered nothing. When down the road and staff at and stayed at JAN BRITO and it was perfect. TV/AC/private bath/bigger room/ no bugs.

As title says, we got locked outside, were forced to book a different hostel last minute, and reschedule our itinerary for Utrecht and stay in Amsterdam. I also work as a receptionist at a hotel that isn’t staffed 24/7, so I always make sure to read the opening hours, precisely because I do not want these things to happen to me. I had read on the webside that latest check-in was at 19:00, so I wanted to confirm if a later check-in would be possible by messaging them. I received a reply that it was indeed possible, but when I asked further, if I needed any crucial information of how to check-in, they never replied. And you can tell the reply was not AI generated, because AI wouldn’t use lowercase letters lol. So as I was on my way to Utrecht, I called them directly to ask, but was to my surprise informed by the lady in the reception that it was no longer possible to check-in, not even self check-in, but that I would have to book a different hostel for the night. While the lady in the reception was kind, I have to say the case was managed extremely poorly, unprofessionally, and straight up lazy. I am aware that 3rd party agents do not always give hotels/hostels access to their guests contact information because of privacy policies, which makes it difficult for staff to reach guests with important information, such as how to check-in late for example. However, before closing the reception, we always make sure to go through our check-in list for the day, and if there are guests that still have not arrived yet, we will make sure to inform them how to check-in themselves - either by calling them, texting them or mailing them. Some guests use guest accounts instead of creating their own accounts, so we can’t always access their own personal email, but we at VERY LEAST still make sure to message them on said platform. I have an account, so my email address should have been accessible. I also did not receive any information at all on the booking platform, yet someone had previously responded ”yes, it’s possible to check-in late, to my request a few weeks ago. We also make sure to prepare key cards for guests arriving late, so they can just follow our instructions and check-in themselves. However, in my case, even when I called the hostel, I was given absolutely zero instructions, which means they had clearly not even prepared for a late check-in as well. These were some of the most frustrating situations we had to deal with as receptionist staff, but in 99,8% of cases with guests being locked out and not able to enter, it was simply because they hadn’t opened their mail/messages on the booking platform, or read our instructions. This, however, was just extremely absurd and caused us a lot of unnecessary stress and expenses…
