St Christopher's Bruges Hostel

It was my third time staying here; just a peaceful area away from the center. It's pretty easy to walk to the main spots. An on-site bar was great to watch the football in as well as sample the local beers.

There is a lot of noice as this hostel has a pub downstairs and when you try to sleep you hear all the noice from outside. Bathrooms are dirty and unhygienic. The switches and ports dont work so difficult to charge your phone. Only 1 Fan in the room so not worth it

В целом хостел очень хороший, недорогой, недалеко от центра, достаточно чисто и комнаты и душевые очень просторные! Есть бар где можно выпить по вечерам и где достаточно неплохой завтрак по утрам. Единственный минус это обнаружены какие-то Жучки мелкие в постели - я не уверена что это было, толи просто летом попали жуки через окно, толи это были клопы. Но укусов вроде не было.

As title says, we got locked outside, were forced to book a different hostel last minute, and reschedule our itinerary for Utrecht and stay in Amsterdam. I also work as a receptionist at a hotel that isn’t staffed 24/7, so I always make sure to read the opening hours, precisely because I do not want these things to happen to me. I had read on the webside that latest check-in was at 19:00, so I wanted to confirm if a later check-in would be possible by messaging them. I received a reply that it was indeed possible, but when I asked further, if I needed any crucial information of how to check-in, they never replied. And you can tell the reply was not AI generated, because AI wouldn’t use lowercase letters lol. So as I was on my way to Utrecht, I called them directly to ask, but was to my surprise informed by the lady in the reception that it was no longer possible to check-in, not even self check-in, but that I would have to book a different hostel for the night. While the lady in the reception was kind, I have to say the case was managed extremely poorly, unprofessionally, and straight up lazy. I am aware that 3rd party agents do not always give hotels/hostels access to their guests contact information because of privacy policies, which makes it difficult for staff to reach guests with important information, such as how to check-in late for example. However, before closing the reception, we always make sure to go through our check-in list for the day, and if there are guests that still have not arrived yet, we will make sure to inform them how to check-in themselves - either by calling them, texting them or mailing them. Some guests use guest accounts instead of creating their own accounts, so we can’t always access their own personal email, but we at VERY LEAST still make sure to message them on said platform. I have an account, so my email address should have been accessible. I also did not receive any information at all on the booking platform, yet someone had previously responded ”yes, it’s possible to check-in late, to my request a few weeks ago. We also make sure to prepare key cards for guests arriving late, so they can just follow our instructions and check-in themselves. However, in my case, even when I called the hostel, I was given absolutely zero instructions, which means they had clearly not even prepared for a late check-in as well. These were some of the most frustrating situations we had to deal with as receptionist staff, but in 99,8% of cases with guests being locked out and not able to enter, it was simply because they hadn’t opened their mail/messages on the booking platform, or read our instructions. This, however, was just extremely absurd and caused us a lot of unnecessary stress and expenses…
