Ikon Hotel

A delightfully historic building right in the heart of the township of Burnie. Very central and within walking distance to everything Burnie has to offer. To enter the accommodation part of the Hotel you have to first enter the “Ember & Vines” restaurant, find the entry door on the side wall to the “Accommodation”, ring the phone number for the hotel, and wait for someone to come down to open the well-fortified door. Next comes the climbing of a 2-tiered stairway to the first floor, which is Accommodation Reception. A very delightful young lady called Laura was our Accommodation Specialist, who imparted our room keys, gave us specific info, and instructions on how to find our room. We were able to arrange a late checkout the following day, as our plane home did not leave until 4 p.m. next day. Laura was very accommodating with our request. Just like the outside of this building, the inside continues to be an eye opener. Very old, but ever so elegantly old world decorated, and very spacious. Laura instructed us that our room was number 1, located on the floor above. So, after climbing another set of 2-tiered stairs, we arrived on the top floor, found room 1, and entered. Nothing short of an “OMG” experience greeted us when we opened the door and entered. The room was huge, overlooking the township of Burnie, and glorious sea views in the distance. We walked into what could be considered a lounge room, large layback couch and chair, coffee table with picture books, and the largest ottoman I have ever seen. There were 2 heaters in the apartment that worked very well, but strangely enough not an air conditioner. A large smart TV was on the wall. Off to our left of the entry door was the bathroom, consisting of a separate shower, toilet, and separate spa bath. The basin was stacked with consumables such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion, also separate vanity requirements, personal swabs, shower cap & sanitary bag. There was also an oversupply of soft fluffy towels, hand towels, bathmats, and face washers. All very much appreciated. So, after being overwhelmed by the bathroom, we walked around the corner from the lounge to be greeted by an extremely large room that bordered the windows, consisting of a kitchenette, large kitchen table and 4 chairs. The kitchen contained every possible thing anyone might need, and stocked with necessities for a continental breakfast. Selection of 6 different types of teabags to choose from, as well as breakfast cereals, also coffee and hot chocolate. The fridge contained milk, yoghurts and bottled water. To go with the continental breakfast bread for toasting was available from reception. Next, continuing up the passageway from the lounge and past the kitchenette, you came to the bedroom off to the left, with a king size bed, which had a “Tempur” type superbly comfortable mattress, and a selection of pillows. In the wardrobe we were greeted with luxurious dressing gowns and slippers. There was also a smaller TV in this room, as well as a table and chair that could be used as a workspace. All in all, this was a luxurious apartment that ticked all of my boxes, plus some. I only have 2 major disappointments with this stay. The first is that I was only staying for one night. My 2nd disappointment is that this glorious building did not have a lift. This would totally limit this building for anyone with a disability who cannot do stairs. This glorious building is a “must do” if you are fit & well. I will definitely book this hotel again when next in Burnie.

Hands down the best there is

Paying this sort of tariff you absolutely expect air con or windows that function. Disappointed. No air flow, hot stuffy rooms.
