"We made a mistake with our booking and the hotel went to great ends to find a way for us to stay another night, even though we hadn't booked it. They put in new beds for us in the only available room..."

Comfortable room and attentive owners, but it has no heat so when it is cold outside, it’s cold in the room. For $200 pesos you can buy ethyl alcohol they pour into a burner which helps take the the edge off for maybe an hour. We left one day early to go to a hotel in Zitácuaro which also dint have central heating, but provided a space heater.
Providing a space heater would have improved our stay immensely. It would likely also be safer than having an open flame in the room.
